Classic and lovely aged Bordeaux nose, though more of the churches and leather than cigar & pencil type. Some red fruit - cranberry? The palate is similar, though definitely savoury, staying the right side of austere. No 1990 plushness here. A touch of spice (allspice?) in the finish added interest. Held up well over 2-3 hours. Not a grand or big scoring sort of wine but a delightful one nevertheless. |

3/26/2024 - king-bing wrote: NRPurchased 2007. Surprisingly translucent. This got going pretty quickly, despite being cellar cool. Really superb wine overall. Needed food initially as was a touch dry and acidic but this soon relaxed in to a compelling and complex wine with a long finish. Clean, compact and focussed notes of cranberry then raspberry, smoke, leather, liquorice, raw celery and wet pavement ((c) Alice). Later a deeper bass note with a slightly powdery texture. Long finish that - like a dying star - adds a flourish of spicy oomph just before it expires. Superb. Eaten with a tuna empanada with smoked paprika. |

3/23/2024 - king-bing wrote: NRI rather enjoyed this. Quite pale. Nose is SB dominant but none the worse for it. Some aged funk on the nose that gave it more interest, though it was actually very clean, not decaying. Not really like anything else. Classy and well made. At less than £10 currently, this is great value. |

3/16/2024 - king-bing wrote: NRPale gold. Quiet but classy nose. Palate is really where it's at. This surprised me with it's presence: a real minerality with a distinct chalk and lime quality that's really something to chew on. Together with a super fresh finish, this has got tension and drive. Rather good. Turns out it comes under the radar from Chris Alheit. Which explains it. |

3/14/2024 - king-bing wrote: NRDark and plummy colour and nose. Quite broad and rich on the palate. A decent lick of tannins still, so better with the venison, which changed the emphasis to the fruit quality. Good stuff, if perhaps a shade "international"? Good value at £15 though and drinking well now - at the start of it's window I'd say. |

3/1/2024 - king-bing wrote: NRBetter than the first bottle. Starts of a bit muted but does evolve. Later some notes of piano hammer felt and some dark cherry. Still a fair chunk of tannin. Notably better after 2 hours when there are hint so tar and rose, with some libraries and leather. yet it's all rather muffled. Decent in the end but not that thrilling. Perhaps a bit skinny and lacking depth. |
