2020 Duckhorn Vineyards Merlot Three Palms VineyardNapa Valley more |
3/22/2024 - TomTom wrote: NRGood acidity propping up a medium bodied Napa Merlot. The palate has some nice complexity, but it is way too early to drink this wine. This has a long life ahead of it and I think 5 to 10 years will integrate this wine. The stuffing is definitely there. |

2/25/2024 - TomTom wrote: NRThis is a special wine. Expressive nose with red fruit and a hint of forest floor. Ethereal palate, so balanced. One of the better California Pinots I’ve had in the last year or more. |

2019 Di Costanzo Cabernet Sauvignon Caldwell VineyardCoombsville more |
1/19/2024 - TomTom wrote: 95 pointsFirst time having a Di Costanzo wine and it was pretty much a “wow.” Great structure and balance. The wine is young, but it has a restrained exuberance. The fruit is California, but not overblown at all. This is the third or fourth Coombsville Cabernet I’ve had and all have had the almost under ripe (in a good way) vibe. Given its structure and acidity, this could be really, really good in 10 years. Love it. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

2021 Phelan Farm (Rajat Parr) GamaySan Luis Obispo County more |
8/20/2023 - TomTom wrote: 92 pointsA bit of an acid bomb, but in a good way. Very aromatic nose with strawberries and a hint of forest floor. On the palate, the red fruits are pretty and made especially vibrant by the acid. I see where the forest floor comes from as the finish has a bit of pine needles. More interesting than most California Gamay, so maybe the extra tariff is worth it. Nice to have a California wine at 12.5% ABV. Will likely pick up another one or two to see how they age. |

2020 Denner ViognierPaso Robles Willow Creek District more |
8/8/2023 - TomTom wrote: NRLacking a bit of nuance. The tropical flavors of a Viognier are drowned out a bit by the alcohol. Still a pleasant and drinkable wine, but not something I would seek out. |

7/6/2023 - TomTom wrote: NRExpressive nose. After the first decant, it is a bit reserved, but opened up after an hour an a half. This is good now, but seems like it’s going to be really good in 10 years or so. What a great QPR. |

2020 Clos Solène HarmoniePaso Robles Red Rhone Blend more |
2/4/2023 - TomTom wrote: 93 pointsGlad there are Paso wineries making restrained wines. This wine is balanced with the Grenache serving as the star of this wine. Red fruit on the nose and on the palate. Some acid on the finish. This wine could benefit from a few years in the cellar, but it is lovely now. A bit pricey, but a nice wine. |

2020 A Tribute to Grace Wine Company Grenache Santa Barbara Highlands VineyardSanta Barbara County more |
1/12/2023 - TomTom wrote: NRFortunately, almost every A Tribute to Grace Wine exceeds my expectations from an QPR perspective and this one is no different. A nose of strawberry and raspberry. Silky mouthfeel that is a hallmark of her wines. The wine has a certain density of flavor without being overly ripe, red fruits on the palate and just a hint of black pepper on the finish. A very nice wine. |

2018 Rhys Pinot Noir Bearwallow VineyardAnderson Valley more |
11/28/2022 - TomTom wrote: 88 pointsPretty disappointing for the price point. The finish was definitely a bit awkward with a bit of a black licorice at the end (but not in a good way). Opened up after about an hour, but just not enough there to justify the price. |

2020 Piedrasassi Syrah Bien Nacido VineyardSanta Maria Valley more |
10/27/2022 - TomTom wrote: NRHigher acid Syrah and it needs time to come together as it is a bit disjointed at this point. Nose is also very reticent. This seems like it will get there because there is good stuffing, but will likely need to hold for 3-5 years. |

6/30/2022 - TomTom wrote: NRNot my style. A little heat and a bit of a mess on the finish. The fruit is a bit muddled with some oddly tropical notes. Some acidity, but doesn’t brighten the wine enough. Even at $50, I would not recommend. |
