2020 Kellerei Nals-Margreid Pinot Bianco Alto Adige - Südtirol Sirmianmore |
7/30/2023 - PDXinSEA Likes this wine: 91 pointsQuite delicious. Aromatically gushing with pear notes and white flower overtones. Crisp pear and some slight hazelnut flavor with a rich fruity finish. My wife claimed it must have some residual sugar. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

12/18/2020 - PDXinSEA Likes this wine: 94 pointsCoravined on Tuesday; opened on Wednesday and Vacuvined; finished on Thursday. Brooding glass-coating dark purple with the barest hint of rim lightening. Powerful aromatics of blackberry, plumcake, black cherry. Dark ripe fruit coats the mouth with mix of blackberry, plum, dried cherries and cassis fruit flavors, informed by integrated barrel notes of vanilla and cedar, lifted by ample acidity but structured by chewy tannins. Two days after opening this still tastes fresh and rich and fruit fights through the tannins to a fine finish. This begs for hours of decanting then pair it with grilled meats. I'm planning to wait for years for the next bottle but if the right cut of meat comes around I have plenty of decanters. 94+ for now but drinking window will extend for decades. |

2/17/2023 - PDXinSEA Likes this wine: 90 pointsOddly tastes younger than the '16. Very fine pure Syrah fruit that shows none of the pepper of a cooler climate or the funk of The Rocks. Its rich purity was all primary and we didn't leave any around to see if a few hours would show added complexity. |

1/28/2023 - PDXinSEA Likes this wine: 92 pointsStill like this quite a bit. Excellent expression of Boushey Syrah fruit which is the iconic expression of Yakima Syrah - lots of blackberry fruit with the tiniest bit of rotundone. Excellent length. Ready to go. |

12/8/2020 - PDXinSEA Likes this wine: 89 points$20 Garagiste purchase. Immediately accessible. Billowy aroma of strawberry fruit jam. Lots of gushy red berry fruit that was absolutely delicious and such a departure from recent smoky meaty Washington Rocks and Northern Rhone Syrahs. A bit of green peppercorn, lively acid, and more powdery tannins than expected made this more than a fruit bomb and promises another couple of years of development. 89+ |

5/13/2020 - PDXinSEA wrote: flawedCorked. FYI I tasted it in their gorgeous super ultra premium high-tech Giants winery and it was so good. I remember asking the tasting room manager why they didn't use screwcaps or Diams and was told that they could taste the difference between those closures and the premium cork they used. I'm not sure I could taste the difference between the TCA in my fancy premium cork and the TCA in some agglomerated piece of crap. Caveat emptor! |

12/19/2023 - PDXinSEA Likes this wine: 92 pointsMarionberries in the nose. Still quite dark. Medium+ body. Tannic structure is evident and needed about 45 minutes to release some of the fruit which has begun to transition. Although this is a big wine, the blend - 50% Cab Sauv, 25% each of Merlot and Cab Franc - are well integrated and show a rich nicely nuanced note of dark berry fruit with some earthy/gravelly note. Perhaps this is still 5 years from its potential but excellent right now. |

6/20/2017 - PDXinSEA Likes this wine: 90 pointsGood mousse, toasty, dried apples. Pretty good length. This is not especially complex but well crafted and has some citrus notes that add to the dried apple. A tasty nutty note appears with some air. Quite a good value. Enough body to make it a versatile food Champagne. I just bought a few more for the summer. |

4/22/2020 - PDXinSEA Likes this wine: 95 pointsIn an absolutely gorgeous place. Decanted ~45 minutes (f!*# somms who categorically won't decant Pinot) with minimal sediment. Medium garnet colored with a light rim of age. The aromatics just keep evolving from the first note of black cherry resolving into more like black raspberry with black tea and, later, notes of tangerine peel with herbes de Provence and a bit of musky morel. All of that is corroborated in the palate which has some spectacular barrel spice that explodes on the back of your tongue around an hour after opening. Quite lengthy with some peacock tail feathering across the tongue on the finish. A streak of acidity and fine grained tannins not only balance but make this a great food wine. Since this is made with 100% whole clusters and 100% new oak and gently processed, the tannins are proportionately more derived from barrel and stem than any wine I've ever tried with great results. A great wine from a much-maligned vintage. |

3/29/2023 - PDXinSEA Likes this wine: 91 pointsCoravined. Pale pretty Burgundy (color). Seemingly muted upon pop-and-pour opening, delicate cherry and cherry cola notes. Tasted after a '15 Elk Cove Five Mountain that had a ton more power so this elegant, sweetly-fruited offering suffered. Days 2 and 3 from the Coravin, this was lovely and surprisingly long. An unbelievable bargain at $14 from Garagiste! Drink now. |

5/15/2023 - PDXinSEA Likes this wine: 92 pointsMedium intensity of aroma, still quite dark with little bricking. Barrel notes still somewhat prominent. Despite noticeable oak notes, well-balanced with dark plum-like fruit starting to move into secondary phase. Some complexities of tobacco leaf. Medium+ length. I liked it a lot more than everyone else. |

1/16/2024 - PDXinSEA wrote: 93 pointsImmediate aromatics were muted and I worried that it would be as ho-hum as the 2015 Chehalem Reserve, but, as it approached room temperature, the perfume of cherry pie with a dollop of vanilla arose with a swirl. Needed about a half-hour to open up but delivered plush sour cherry fruit tempered with baking spice notes from the oak. Quite well-balanced with a tangy marionberry flavor and lively acidity that enhanced the spice impressions. Lengthy finish. Shockingly superior to the 2015 Reserve. |

Pretty textbook Nebbiolo with scents of tar and roses. Medium body despite its age. Tannins were well in check with black cherry and black plum fruit and a lively acidity. Doesn't blow me away but was a fine dinner companion to an Ottolenghi Very Full Tart ( Plenty) whose 2+ hours prep time worked w/ slow-ox.Roasted vegies in egg cream base matched mature fruit. Medium + finish. 91 |

5/20/2021 - PDXinSEA wrote: 91 pointsPnP Very healthy wine. Dark garnet with a light rim. Rich aroma of raspberry extract. I believe 95% of the fruit comes from Horse Heaven Hills AVA so don't expect Rocks funk.. Medium+body. On the palate, raspberry fruit with white pepper notes. Darker notes of black fruit from 25% Mourvedre. Drinks well on initial pour but comes into its own at the half-hour mark. Finish has an interesting mint note. |
