4/12/2024 - liber Likes this wine: 92 pointspnp - light and bright, fine typicity, orchard fruit and citrus, nuanced bouquet, med bodied, linear and correct, fine length, bit tight and angular as yet, if it rounds out upside, 10+ years. At least F (17.5). |

2/3/2017 - liber Likes this wine: 93 points17th of 18, pnp, perfect cork and level, previous notes since '11 all fine, except for one slightly flawed bottle - light gold, viscous, now showing age; attractive, rich, tropical fruit, lychee and latterly banana, nice touch of spice and honey; fullish, very long and persistent, baked fruit, not as pure and as fresh as the very best vintages of this wine, and maybe a tad too sweet, but after all it's VT bordering SGN, no rush needed but fully ready. F+ (18). When Albert gets it right, I put these wines amongst the very best in Alsace, preferring the balance, purity and aromatic profile to the heavier styles further south. |

11/18/2017 - liber Likes this wine: 93 pointsLast of 18, pnpp, perfect cork and level, again yummy, shame last bottle, these wines need 8 years to settle down and lose overwhelming sweetness! F+ (18). |

2/6/2017 - liber wrote: 88 points36 bottles drunk between '04 and '12. Not one of Albert's better offerings with a huge amount of bottle variation, high levels of volatile acidity in many bottles and over hot flavours. Best bottles VGI (17), should be drunk now! |

10/24/2020 - liber Likes this wine: 94 points2nd of 6, pnp, perfect cork and level - mid yellow, leggy; entering banana and spice phase; quite full, v long and persistent, quite complex and fresh for such a rich wine, upside yet. F+ (18). |

6/16/2017 - liber Likes this wine: 89 points5th of 6, pnp, perfect cork and level, as my last note, just older and a tad less energetic. VG+ (16.5).......I don't understand Deiss's latest thinking, so long a beacon, his recent offerings have been ho hum! |

12/6/2014 - liber Likes this wine: 88 points2nd of 6, previous note very good - classy wine-making as one might expect from Deiss, a big, sweetish, spicy bruiser, just lacking the refinement for a fine rating. Stylistically, I prefer the lighter, purer style found further North in Alsace, eg Zotzenberg or Kichberg de Barr, though Sorg does well in the Eichberg and Hartmann in the Hatschbourg. Very good (16/20). |

11/20/2017 - liber wrote: 85 points1st of 6, pnp, perfect cork and level - yellow, leggy, old; curiously rich, nutty, tropical fruit, not pure or fresh or typical; fullish, quite long, heady, odd, prematurely old, where is the freshness and zip and Riesling typicity of yore, Deiss's Shoenenbourg was a delight, this, if typical, a mistake. At best QG+ (14.5).....drinkable but no real pleasure if you are after classic, dry, food friendly, Alsace Riesling! |

3/21/2018 - liber Does not like this wine: 80 points2nd of 6, pnp, perfect cork and level, even worse than last November's bottle, flabby, clumsy, no zip or minerality, slightly sulphury, oddness exaggerated by spritz, poor stuff, particularly when compared with the wonderful Shoenenbergs' of the 80s and 90s. What is happening at this estate to produce such poor stuff? |

7/21/2018 - liber wrote: 84 points3rd of 6, pnp, perfect cork and level, more attractive than last bottle, but still far too lumpy, sweet and lacking the zip and typicity of good Alsace Riesling! Dull stuff and at best QG (14). |

2/18/2020 - liber Does not like this wine: 60 points4th of 6...poxy and poor, no typicity whatsoever, what style it has is lumpy and oversweet, not one bottle of a 6 pack so far has been worth drinking. Poor (10). |

2/9/2021 - liber Does not like this wine: 80 points5th of 6, pnp, perfect cork and level, again surprisingly dark, muddy flavours, pox elements, not as bad as last bottle but still poor, atypical stuff in what should be a fine vintage. (12).....a disgrace from Deiss! |

5/26/2013 - liber Likes this wine: 97 pointsSylvaner is weak and insipid, smelling of cat's pee.........suspend belief, this wine is extraordinary (as are all Albert's VV Sylvaners), the only problem is when and with what to drink them. This has the weight and intensity for foie gras or for desert. I drank it as an aperitif (spread over several days). To judge from a 52 Iphofen TBA drunk 10 years ago, this has the matiere to improve over 50 years at least.....so it may yet improve over current very fine plus (19/20). |

4/14/2022 - liber Does not like this wine: 51 points6th of 6, pnp, perfect cork and level, dead, gone, total crap, Deiss should be ashamed, not a single bottle worth drinking, and these were bought at the domaine on their recommendation in October 13!!!! Ghastly (0). |

2010 Domaine Albert Seltz Riesling BrandluftAlsace more |
9/23/2018 - liber wrote: 85 points1st of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level - mid yellow, aging; surprisingly floral and rich for Brandluft, lacking the usual pronounced chalky minerality which can be so attractive, hint of kerosene; medium, ok length, not particularly persistent or complex, too rich and almost blowsy to my palate and falling into the all too common Alsace trap of retaining too much residual sugar to be an easy food wine, seems to be aging prematurely, so I can't see this shedding puppy fat, eating the sugar and developing the pure style I'm really after. At best G (15)...frankly a disappointment in what should have been a pretty good vintage and from a lieu-dit which has produced excellent and stylish wine (and in my view more attractive than the too floral GC Zotzenberg) from this producer in the past, so hopefully a slightly rogue bottle! |

10/9/2018 - liber wrote: 87 points2nd of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, better, more cut, tighter and lighter, even some kerosene and mineral, drier if not exactly dry, odd yeastiness on back palate but more interesting than first bottle. G+ (15.5). |

1/25/2019 - liber Likes this wine: 94 points4th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level - frankly it's hard to believe the change from previous bottles, this one clean and pure, the irritating former mid palate sweetness now resolved giving weight and roundness, all mineral and kerosene, finely etched, very long and complex, grip and drive to the fruit, just entering maturity from awkward adolescence on this showing. F+ (18) for now but with potential for much more......a proper dry, food friendly Alsace Riesling developing here, believe me somewhat in the style of a fine vintage Clos Ste Hune, but at a fraction of the price (if you're lucky enough to find it! |

1/24/2020 - liber wrote: 87 points8th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, heightened colour, slightly oxidised and flabby (creamy not tense) but with underlying minerality and kerosene which makes it pleasant enough if not what it should be, this bottle would have been better a year ago, clean bottles have scope for further development. G+ (15.5). |
