2/22/2020 - pavel_p Likes this wine: 91 pointsPnp. Dark garnet to the rim. Plenty of dark berries but already showing surprisingly good balance and good freshness too. Not overoaked either. Nice Malbec |

1/21/2022 - pavel_p Likes this wine: 92 pointsLong double blind wine tasting dinner. Short notes from memory. Same bottle as Collector. Clearly the biggest wine that evening. Ripe but not overripe dark fruit. Earthy notes. We guessed Napa and was surprised to see this being a 2015 as the wine seemed mature. Need to check on my 2007s Catena Argentinos as they might need drinking if they have aged at the same pace... |

Very smooth and appreciate that it's not that heavy on alcohol at 14%, but lacks structure for my taste. Short to medium finish. Ok - but I think you can get the same quality 30% cheaper with other Malbecs from Argentina. |

9/29/2013 - pavel_p wrote: 86 pointsDark garnet with some purple. A nice nose with dark fruit and some sous bois. On the palate very rich, in my eyes overripe, berries, and other dark fruit, which tastes burned at times. Fine tannins come out of the very generous fruit only after about 1h in the decanter. Just a touch of heat which carries into the rather short finish. |

Am sure palate fatigue was kicking in already but was surprised that while this wine was very smooth (14.5% alc...) it seemed aromatically rather muted. Surprised to see that I have had this before. |

1/18/2011 - pavel_p wrote: 88 pointsPop and pour without decant. Velvety smooth palate, nicely integrated tannins, later some spice appears but not much more. Rather short finish. If this was a bdx I would say this might develop some more interesting flavour but have my doubts in this case. Still not bad |

7/26/2020 - pavel_p Likes this wine: 93 pointsFirst bottle from a case bought several years back. Poured into decanter and drank over an hour or so. Nice and fairly complex nose of dark fruit, soil, animal notes. On the palate ripe dark fruit, a touch of tar, eucalyptus, balanced however by good acidity. 14% alcohol not noticeable. Not unlike the (hot) 07 vintage of BdM in style. Medium (-) tannins. Fairly short finish. |

5/14/2018 - pavel_p Does not like this wine: 87 pointsOff restaurant list which did not mention a 2015 vintage was coming. Young with plenty of oak and vanilla, medium body without much depth. Short to medium finish. Fairly boring mainstream wine, would give it another 2 years in bottle for the oak to integrate a bit |

9/9/2022 - pavel_p Likes this wine: 92 points8 years since my last bottle... Opened in the morning and slow ox'ed until dinner at at an Argentinian steak house together with an 09 Fieuzal and a 18 Radio Silence. Dark garnet in the glass, plenty of dark berries, some leather, nice but fairly foursquare, short finish. I thought the 09 Fieuzal that followed was head and shoulders above this in terms of not only depth and complexity but also refinement. One of the guests had this however as WOTN. 91-92 for me. |

5/3/2014 - pavel_p wrote: 92 pointsDouble decanted for about 45 min, then took to restaurant for another good 1h decant. Dark berries, some earth, potato chips reminding me of a northern rhone shiraz. Dark fruit, yes, sweet but not overly sweet on the palate, integrated tannins. The wine tastes rather young, so perhaps can still age a bit. Where I get some doubts about its ability to age, and where it falls short in my eyes of a truly great wine, is the mid-palate which lacks a bit of concentration, if this is meant to develop further. First there is nice dark fruit, then some wood, and when you wait for the next aroma, there is... nothing. Good medium finish though. Very good (92-93) - drink now |

5/22/2016 - pavel_p Likes this wine: 93 pointsA dinner with friends at home: Last wine of the evening. Still dark garnet in the glass with little evolution. The expected rich and sweet dark and blue fruit, chocolate. Juicy and not tired at all. Long finish. This can easily last another 5 years. |

4/9/2022 - pavel_p Likes this wine: 93 points5 years since my last bottle… 30 min decant. Was an ok wine but nothing great before the meal arrived. Still a fairly dark garnet with a very thin translucent rim in the glass. Quite fresh on the nose and attack with plenty of dark berries. On the mid palate lacking a bit of concentration. Initially fully integrated tannins but with more air they become more prominent and somewhat drying. |

2/2/2017 - pavel_p Likes this wine: 93 pointsSlow ox'ed for 5 hours. Dark garnet with translucent rim. Big on the nose. Surprisingly developed on the palate, dominated by leather and tobacco notes, medium plus body on the mid-palate, not overly sweet, medium (+) finish. 93-94. I liked this a lot and the best Catena Zapata I have had, just not sure if this can last another 10-15 years as it seemed quite developed for such a big wine at age 10. So would drink now if you have a few. |

9/7/2018 - pavel_p Likes this wine: 90 pointsDark garnet, almost black. Nice barnyard nose, concentrated dark fruit, earthy notes, tobacco on the palate. I like the dryness and even more the fact that this is not over oaked, instead it’s all nicely integrated which is rare for such a young wine from anywhere in the world. Compared to the attack, the mid palate is a bit flat and for a higher score lacks complexity and aromatic expressiveness but it’s all in a great balance and very enjoyable to drink. Opened in between a 94 Lagrange and a 2000 Pontet Canet and this did definitively not fall off. Would love to try this in 2-3 years to see if there is further upside. Unfortunately this was my only bottle and a gift too. 90+ |
