7/22/2017 - tanguero8 Likes this wine: 88 pointsRare to find a good Merlot (any Merlot, really) in Argentina. Good acidity, and more flavourful than most Merlots. I think it's one of the best wines of this bodega (one of the only ones, if not the only, in the province of La Pampa), much better than the Cabernet Franc, in my opinion, which they push as their forte. 9 months on oak. This opinion was by and large shared by our group of 4-6 people who tasted various wines from this bodega, almost all of whom rated the Merlot as the top wine of this bodega. Strangely enough, the representatives of the bodega, who were there at the more recent tasting I went to, made more modest statements about the Merlot--they need to give themselves more credit! The owner of the wine store who sponsored the tasting also thought the Merlot was their forte. |

8/29/2023 - tanguero8 Likes this wine: 90 points[Edit 2023-08] Had the second bottle and was MUCH more enjoyable. Could it really have been the 2 additional years in the bottle--I doubt it. This time, I detected much more complexity, fruitiness, oakiness, so upped the rating from a lowly 84 to 90. |

4/24/2009 - nvexplorer wrote: 84 pointsThis is a good red wine, but only if you are open minded about it. Even though it is 100% merlot grapes, the style is much more a rustic table "red". There are pitted fruits, spice, dust. Balance is pretty dry, with some agressive tannins, and a short finish. A really good red gravey wine, just not a traditional merlot. |

12/17/2005 - cse wrote: 89 pointsI must revise my initial assessment of this wine. After pouring out a glass on 12/11 and being rather disappointed with it, I squirted the remainder with a wine-preservative gas and left it on the counter. Three days later I returned to it, and much to my surprise the wine was lovely--the somewhat "baked" initial quality had dissipated; the wine tasted fresh and racy, with bright acidity on the attack, excellent cherry fruit-flavors in the mid-palate, and a long, drying finish full of (pleasant. not sharp) mouth-coating tannins. I don't have any more of this wine but if I did I would put the rest of the bottles away for 2-3 years before (full of anticipation!) cracking the next one open. NB: I'm still drinking this wine nearly a week after opening it (using a spray-in gas as a between-drinking preservative) and it remains immensely satisfying. |
