7/5/2011 - Jack O'Brien wrote: 100 pointsA lot of bottle variation with the half case I had. Last bottle was the best and shared with David O'Reilly. This was, however; a perfectly aged Bordeaux. Everything you read about regarding aged French wines and how ineffable the drinking experience really is, can be summed up with this bottle. |

1/29/2021 - dajapino Likes this wine: 100 pointsAnother extraordinary bottle of LB! Ok, 100pts. in terms of LB, but still very high 90s against peers...this is just terrific. Hard to hold back the enthusiasm for this wine and its prospects over the medium to long term! Bravo! |

11/5/2019 - Chrishavens Likes this wine: 100 pointsThis is as good as it gets. Double decanted 30 min at 6-30 am then 13 hours with cork. Fill cork Label perfect. Graphite power after 30 min in glass- slowly settled down. You can wait. Top flight Bordeaux. I ask - Can you consistently tell us 94 vs 98 Points ? No you can’t unless a Super Taster. So i say this wine is the best that Bord has to offer ! |

11/28/2020 - jdritley@kearny.com Likes this wine: 100 pointsThis is my all time favorite wine - ever and this bottle was no disappointment. Elegant as hell, beautifully balanced, long, tobacco-ese finish on well developed dark berries flavours. The opposite of anything California, low alcohol, finesse, fruit without jam, the most heavenly French of French. Had on Thanksgiving with teenagers that mistakenly opened and started pouring without abandon before we caught them. One of them, who drinks 90+ pointer Brunello's with us on a regular basis, but swears "I can't tell the difference between this and Franzia (ahem!), for the first time said: "Oh, THIS is good." Haha. 4 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

1/1/2016 - Fuzzy Squash Likes this wine: 100 points2nd bottle drank against 2006 Sassicaia, 2007 Insignia and 2009 Schrader RBS. All great wines but the Leoville Barton was clearly a step above. Drank after a 3 hour decant. |

6/9/2020 - RLThorsen Likes this wine: 99 pointsBeautiful dry tannins. About an hour in a decanter. Oiled belt leathers. Savory honey crisp apple that’s begging to turn into blue fruit. But still dry Apple. Paired with a beautiful medium rare filet with oil. Completely perfect pairing. Rounded green vegetables. Miso soup. Round. Vegetables, a bit stewed but not a rich stew or brother. A miso broth. |

8/9/2020 - Indran Rajendra Likes this wine: 99 pointsA classical St Julien wine. Powerful, pure and elegant. Introspective and feminine. Nothing is out of place. It is the structure that impresses with its perfect balance and firm tannins. Though dominated by blackcurrant and cigarbox there are hints of manure and a typical aged character emerging. Well cellared bottle with mid neck ullage and wine stain only on the circular base of the plump cork.Best after 45 mins in the decanter with hints of mauve. Riedel Bordeaux glasses at 15 deg C. Estimated drinking window 2028 to 2050. |

8/22/2020 - Indran Rajendra Likes this wine: 98 pointsIn these uncertain times it is comforting to pop the cork on a Leoville Barton. It reliably delivers a beautifully structured blackcurrant backbone and an introspective feminine wine. The opaque core with ruby garnet edge is consistent with its 2010 ripeness and 10 years of age. It is best after 45 minutes in the decanter. The bouquet reveals blackcurrant (ofcourse) blueberries, cherries, mint, lemon grass and sweet spice. And from the empty glass cigar box and nutmeg. I feel like pulling out a Montecristo. The structure is perfect- the hallmark of this wine which sometimes makes the wine better in a “lesser” vintage. See my note on the 2008. Ripe fruit and good length. What an underrated wine, thankfully, making it affordable. Drunk at 15 degrees C. Riedel Bordeaux glasses. Estimated drinking window 2035-2065. Blind tasting. |

1/10/2003 - Charlie Carnes wrote: 98 pointsThere is just an explosion of fruit and sweet vanilla coming from the glass. The gobs of red and dark fruit have amazing breadth and depth. The fruit is cushioned by beautiful sweet tannins. An amazing young wine. At maturity it will be spectacular! |

Some found it spare and acidic. Beautiful lead pencil and black cherry / cassis fruit on the nose. Some coffee. Very much like the 2000 Montrose -- dense and wound up. A massive core of fruit to this wine. Solid. Rank: 16/18 Vintage: 2000.4 |

Certainly one of the best couple bottles I've ever had. This wine has been one of my favorites and it just keeps getting better. |

3/2/2013 - Matt Scott Likes this wine: 98 pointsThere's an assuaging amount of classicism to this regal Barton; the best vintage in the modern realm. I last had this in '07 and the secondary nuances of cigar box and grilled portobello mushrooms are just magnetic, on top of the blackberry, lilac, wet earth and Yorkshire pudding. Seamless to the ninth degree, with velvety tannins that are indicative of the '03 vintage. Decant or wait a couple more years - then watch this for decades as I see a very long life ahead. Such beautiful fruit and the nose is really perfection in a glass. My favorite Barton to date. Drink now - 2043 7 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |
