Definitely not for sweet wine aficionados! Strong citrus notes - a true representation of Lombardy Italian whites, recommend for mature tastes only!

Popped and poured. Great, expressive nose of clean, wet stone, fresh cut flowers, peach pit, and granny smith apples, with hints of light honey, sour apple candy, lime, and pineapples. The palate is just as expressive with flavors of honeyed pears, applesauce, sweet pineapple, and baked apples with hints of tart green apples, caramel and honey. Great minerality on the finish, more like the wet river stones of Sancerre than the harsh "stainless steel" taste of many Italian whites.

Style & Quality: A+. You will never taste Trebbiano like this in your life! What's great about this wine is the elegant texture and the transition across the palate. At first sip you get crisp acidity that smooths out across the rich midpalate and finishes super clean. Great use of oak that doesn't intrude on the fruit at all. The acidity gives it great structure and backbone while the oak gives it extra depth. Super hardcore fans of Italian whites will be blown away!

Value: A+. I got this for only $19 and for a Riserva, 1 year in french oak followed by 6 months in bottle, is a fantastic deal for a white that has held up fantastically after 4 years.

Overall: I can't imagine Trebbiano getting any better than this but until I am proven wrong, A+!

Finished off the last bottle at my weekly wine tasting class. Still drinking great with nice delicate flavors of lemon curd, lemon cake icing and honey, with a hint of bourbon and stone. Oak and acid integrated nicely and its very surprising to see an Italian white handle its age this well. Would love to compare this to Zenato's regular Trebbiano bottling. I still have not found another Trebbiano based wine that can compare to this riserva and so it maintains its "A" rating. Also one of the best whites I have had in a while, especially in the $20 range.

Its pale straw-yellow with green reflections.
Tasting this wine you can perceive apple and peach notes and at the
end a trace of bitter almonds.
I recommend this wine with dishes from hors d’oeuvres to fish.

Woah! This was the "Affitato in Botiglie Cinque Anni" - this means current release of bottles aged for 5 years in the bottle. Rediculously good! Very expressive and complex nose of pineapple, green apple, kettle corn, and buttery salinity with STRONG minerality (if that makes sense). The palette follows suit with grilled pieapple and herbacious lemon cake with a crisp, yet buttery, textue and a very long finish laced with sweet citrus and granite.

As good, if not better, on day two. The oak and pollen are at the forefront. This is very reminiscent of a top end Cali Chard on the nose, but the palette is more subtle and bright. Outstanding bottle. i'm not sure if Italian white wines get much better than this. Grazie mille "Signorvino" in Piazza Vittoria, Brescia. Bravissimo!

Retail $40. Big Ass Bottle. 100% Turbiana (Trebbiano di Lugana). Gambero 3. This is the second bottle of Turbiana that I have had in as many days (or close) and I am falling for the variety. Hard. And this wine? Easily the best Turbiana I have had (disregard the fact that I could count the number of wines on one hand with enough fingers left over to swirl the glass). Fantastic nose of lemon meringue, a touch of lime, a bit of salinity, very nice. But the nose did not prepare me for the palate. At. All. Whoa. Rich, intense fruit, shocking acidity, incredible balance. Whoa. This is really fantastic.

2011 Provenza Lugana Fabio Contato

Turbiana, Verdicchio more

11/9/2019 - forceberry wrote: 94 points

Made from the oldest Trebbiano di Lugana vineyards of Ca' Maiol / Provenza. Aged for 6 months in French oak barriques and for another 6 months in bottles before release. 13,5% alcohol.

Concentrated, somewhat developed and very intense yellow-green color. Rich, open and wonderfully developed nose with fascinating, complex and quite powerful aromas of roasted nuts, some browned butter, a little bit of bruised apple, light funky notes of creamy cheese, a hint of toast and a touch of lemon marmalade. The wine is full-bodied, lively and quite concentrated on the palate with complex flavors of stony minerality, toasty spice, nutty complexity, some bruised apple, a little bit of cooked cream, light notes of yellow stone fruits, a hint of roasted chestnuts and a touch of exotic spices. The mouthfeel is somewhat oily and even slightly viscous, but the high acidity lends great balance and sense of structure to the wine. The finish is very long, complex and quite toasty with flavors of stony minerality, some ripe citrus fruits, a little bit of developed nuttiness, light toasty notes of brioche, a hint of tangy salinity and a touch of browned butter.

A beautiful, immensely complex and harmonious Lugana with impressive structure, tons of concentration and lush, wonderfully developed fruit flavors. The wine isn't obviously young anymore, but neither does it feel like it is at the end of its life. Based on the intensity of fruit and the sense of concentration, I feel like there is still quite a bit of unrealized potential here. An excellent example why one should cellar these top Luganas for some years and not just drink them young. This tops easily many of the great Burgundy whites I've tasted. Outstanding stuff and ridiculous value at 25€.

2/24/2024 - Hilzi Likes this wine: 94 points

Beautiful wine! Confession: I love Lugana. I already loved in when everyone (including me) thought this was made of the cheap Trebbiano grape. And I still love it.
This wine is beautifully made - apricot, nectarine, a bit of melon, followed by good, citrusy acidity. Long aftertaste. Round and smooth.
The fruit starts to fade a bit. I’d say it’s a tad past its peak. Nice to drink now, but I’d drink up quickly, if this wasn’t the last bottle for me.

A pretty wine with loads of character and charisma; that’s what the Zenato brothers have created in this brilliantly attractive Lugana. Stunning floral notes are cleverly laced with savory peaches and a hint of almond that lingers on the refined finish.

Intriguing medium straw colour with some gold reflections. Aromas of crisp apple, ripe citrus and stone fruit with a backdrop of vanillan/kernel subtlties. Obvious well integrated oak on the palate comes through with a full, round body and restrained but present acidity. Great value white from the Veneto.
