Touch harsh at times and took away from what we expected to be a bit more of an elegance to wine. Nose > Very aromatic. Strawberry & dried strawberry, rose, licorice, red & black cherry, clove & brown cooking spice, violet, sumac & hint of cherry cola. Palate > Big, rich & ripe, with high-ish acidity. Dried flowers, fresh & dried strawberry, brown spice & clove, sumac, red & choke cherry. Fairly ripe, grippy tannins. Not much touched by oak. Med/med+ intensity. Good balance, but the tannin & acidity overpower the fruit. Tannin & acidity marry in finish, & take spice, & some, but not all of the fruit with it. Tannins are a bit drying ATM. Good>Very good, but needs time. The aromas are attractive, fresh, and there's plenty of typicity on the nose, and the palate. But, as attractive as the aromas are, the palate/structure are going to require some patience for a more complete showing. Lovely at times, focused, all the time. HOLD. Almost nothing on the nose and very closed taste. Opened up a bit after a couple of decants over two hours prior to dinner, but remained fairly close. A mouth-drying experience with notes of oak, tobacco and dried berries. Expected more, was actually quite disappointed. The taste is powerful, dry with high tannins. 2015 is a killer-vintage in Piemonte and this wine definitely has enough tannins and acidity for a long life developing more and more complexity.
