Tried two full bottles. Both not good. Lack freshness and have a bitter finish. Not only my opinion but those of several other fellow aficionados of this wine. Sadly very disappointing, particularly on the freshness front.

Tasted from a full bottle rather late for an En Rama.

Produced from 100% Palomino grapes grown on white albariza soils at Hidalgo’s highest quality vineyards of El Cuadrado at Balbaina Alta. This Spring 2023 release is available in limited quantities (only 35 barrels with a capacity of 1,000 litres of the solera are used). Tasting note: Intense, complex and balanced on the nose, this En Rama has a wonderful salty character influenced by the close proximity of the cellars in Sanlúcar de Barrameda to the sea (only 500m away) as well as the altitude of the Balbaina vineyard (100m). Matured using the traditional “Criaderas y Solera” process in American oak casks, under a layer of “flor” integrated by the yeasts, the wine is intensely gold with green tints. At 15% alcohol, it is perfect served as an aperitif with salted nuts, olives and jamon or with fish, seafood, asparagus or artichokes. One sip and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to the Cathedral Style Bodega. Winemaker's notes!
Colour: light gold, sl copper tinge, bright, clear.
Nose: full, very fresh, salty, almonds, direct rather than rounded.
Taste: light body, again direct, frank, saline, v dry, almost austere yet good, fresh fruit. Long finish, v dry, yeasty, malted notes too that linger.
Overall, most enjoyable and complex. More full bodied than the Deliciosa Manzanilla of Valdespino of similar bottling (L230892)/

Haunting pale straw colour. Very light gold. Looks beautiful in the glass.

Fresh with a coastal tang but plenty of vibrant, bready body.

Salinity lingers in a refined and agreeable manner.

As ever a sherry proves to be ridiculously good value. Complexity, length and sheer drinking joy for £17.

Lively and lovely stuff, another good en rama.

Not vintage, 2023 release
Very pure nose, essence of manzanilla, yeast and salty notes,
Green apple, refreshing, saline and then full and rich.
Potentially very good. I think it needs to open up a bit more.

Saturday Night - Sushi and What we do in the Shadows; 11/4/2023-11/5/2023: Lovely nutty nose, the palate had great acid and that oxidative character, but somehow a little more diffuse than I remember? Still vg value.

What to drink with ramen on a Saturday night, when you don't feel like opening a whole bottle and you're the only one drinking alcohol? This of course. Lovely stuff - sherry is hard to make notes for but...salinity, dry but not achingly so, moreish but its somewhat civilised 15% ABV make that less dangerous than it otherwise might be. There may be better bargains in the wine world, but not many.

I had a disappointing bottle that I did not bother to note. Trying this again after enjoying their 2021 offering (see separate note).
Colour: med amber gold, bright, clear.
Nose: full, fresh, ripe fruit, salty tang, caramel hints, all in all quite complex and typical.
Taste: light/med body, rounded, fresh, good fruit, touch of oak, med finish, fresh, ripe, dry but rounded.
Overall, note that tasted after vacuvined for two days. The ripeness is surprising but pleasant. Likewise the weight on the palate. A good follow on to 2021.

Yes, you get the Sanlucar tanginess, the salt and the sea breeze, as you would expect. This En Rama effort also delivers a fuller, deeper taste. A hint of nuttiness, some herbs and a wonderful mouthfeel with a long, dry finish.

Good stuff. I look forwarded to polishing off a half dozen of these this summer 😁

Fresh nose, saline, green apple, plus some richer notes of yeast and cinnamon.
Very fresh on the palate, tangy, salty, really lively and youthful. Then yeasty with almond and a slightly funky oloroso type note.
In a very fresh style as opposed to some editions of this which are more mature.
It's not 100 miles from the standard bottling just saltier and more intense.

On the nose: hay, grass, stones, yeast, and lemon, fresh. On the palate: very savory and yeasty with a chalky texture. There is high acidity, an obvious lemonade taste, a light saline finish, very good.

Only 11.5% ABV, apparently a very cool vintage.
Aged in manzanilla casks,very little flor allowed to form, battonage,
Bruised apple on the nose, oxidative edge.
Lots of appley fruit, creamy texture. Rich, low acidity. Fascinating wine. Not sure I love it as much as La Gitana but I think it might grow on me.

Fresh nose, green apple, bread and floral, saline
Really fresh on the palate, fresh fruit, salty, then creamy and nutty. Almonds. Very long.
Seems to me to be fresher than previous releases. More like the standard bottling but with the most magnificent finish.

Tried against the Tio Pepe En Rama 2021 (see separate note). Jerez vs Sanlucar!
The TP has a precise bottling date, whereas this is rather vaguer:Spring 2021. However, the back label here tells you it comes from El Cuadrado, the highest vineyard in the Golden Triangle, in Balbaine Alta.
Colour: pale gold, bronze tinge, lighter than the TP.
Nose: q full, v fresh, perfumed, elegant blend of nuttiness, saltiness, ripe apples, peach notes.
Taste: med body, fresh, straight, good light fruit, citrus, apples,peaches (!), salty, med finish, dry, salty, subtle floral, apple and peach flavours.
Overall, a close run thing between the two. It depends on whether you prefer something more opulent, rounder (TP) or straighter, more elegant, drier.
Match ends in a hard fought draw between two excellent teams.
Both are delicious and remind me of happy childhood days in Seville. To convert Sherry sceptics, give them these!

2020 release, not a vintage wine.
Deep gold yellow colour
Very ripe cooked apple on the nose, hazelnuts.
Lovely on the palate, full and very nutty, so many almonds, green apple. Love the way this combines big fat flavours with plenty of freshness. Complex, serious wine but just so drinkable. Excellent stuff.

P: rich and broad, loads of toast, but with a classic Manzanilla top note of camomile and pea shoot. Layers of flavour. Long finish. Really preferred this to the Tio 2020 release. Superb.

Lovely pale lemon color. Vibrant aromas of biscuit and salt. Fresh and zingy, with citrus notes, salinity, hazelnut and a tangy long finish. Lovely complexity.

Not vintage, 2019 release
Lovely creamy round texture, brown apple fruit, salty tang, almonds, long finish. Touch of toffee at the end.
Very hard to resist finishing the bottle.

Not a vintage but the 2018 release
deep gold colour
LOts of flor on the nose, super fresh, really smells like it's just come out of the barrel which is I suppose the point
Really full, round texture, salty, lots of flor but also almonds and hazelnuts, so many nuts, very long finish
Rich wine, very nice, £17 is a good price
