Popped and poured; enjoyed over three days. Special on Day 1. Sensational on Day 3. The 2018 pours a deep purple color moving towards a magenta rim with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. There appears to be some fine sediment as well. On the nose, the wine is developing with fascinating notes of blackberries, smoked blueberry crisp, lavender, animale, bacon fat, new leather, black olives, iron-like minerals and some faint spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish lasts for an eternity and it’s laden with purple flowers, fruit and minerals. This is a thrilling Cornas with enormous energy and character. While it’s a delight to enjoy now, I expect a long life. My next bottle will be after 2028 and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to get thrills through 2038. The last glass had loads of fine sediment coating the glass; just something to keep in mind.

Smoke, menthol and hints of tar over crushed blackberries. This is deeply saturated, primordial Syrah, yet still lifted and perfumed with fine tannins. Mmm, this is very pure and exceptionally grippy.

Life affirming bottle of Syrah, it really is. How this producer remains under the radar for so long is one of the greatest mysteries in wine. At Domaine Fauterie, Sylvain Bernard is making world class Syrah of the highest tier.
It started out with smoke, olive, cured meat, bacon fat then it transitioned to pure dried/baked cherry aromas and flavors. Incredibly pure. Alluring nose that kept pulling you back in for a sip. What a talent.

Yes, opening sooner than optimal but really wanted to see what was in the bottle. Very impressive. Liquid stone, chalky, underripe blackberry. Classic in style, perhaps a touch lighter than Allemand but clearly a peer.

A bruiser for sure and would be cool to see what it’s like with more time. Menthol, nutmeg, olive brine, bacon, a tinge of rotting meat, funk like Jamaican rum (long pond TECA mark),

Needs lots and lots of time. Rather primary at the moment. Menthol and eucalyptus on the nose. Dense, textured, will live forever.

To say the nose is expressive is an understatement. Black berries, dark cherries, cassis, roasted meats. On the palate a lot of fruit up front with black berries, black cherries, currants. Followed by roasted meats, spice, olives, rocky earth & superb tannins. The stoniness is the star here. Very complex wine that is constantly evolving. Its primary, rich but balanced and is more elegant than all the bold flavors that I point out. A true sum of its parts.

No harm to open if you have plenty to spare. This will. benefit from couple years of cellaring and of course the structure suggests a long life. 93+

On the nose, camphor and a touch of plum. On the palate, red fruit that seamlessly combines with smoked meat, a unique sweet dusty taste that I can't relate to anything else I have had, and notes of brine and earth on the long finish, with well-balanced acidity. This is excellent, and it was an excellent value at a little over $50. Although this may improve, it's already excellent. I will be looking for more.

Still very young. Lot of evolution over the first hour. Not jammy like many of the modern producers of late, though still more fruit than the older classics. Very nice finish, heavy tannins. I would wait another 3-5 years if possible.

With a nose of fresh cut grass in the sping this wine jumps from the glass. Color is spun gold, almost cloudy. But the flavor is rich complex fruit. What a bargain. With Rosengartens fresh harvest olive oil and dried New Mexico red chile on veggie pizza with jalapenos this was divine. Made the stupid bowl half time show a real treat.

Truly exemplary of a classic Rhone. As the wine opens, there is a predominance of leather and subtle pepper on the nose. Slightly chewy on the palate and nicely balanced with hints of ripe berries that are not overwhelming.

Decanted. Now 3.5h after decant. Aromas of ripe blackberries and cherries, herbs, roasted game meats, olives, and a bit of garrigue. Palate w dark black cherries, ripe blackberries, olives, brambles, roasted meats, herbs, bark and earth. Full bodied w nice acids. Medium+ tannins. Rich but balanced w some elegance. Nice balance. Young for sure but all the elements are here for a beautiful wine in 10-15 yrs. Excited to see how this turns out. 91+

Sampled at Oinoscent during service, bottle brought by importer
The wine shows medium intensity, earthy, spicy, cinnamon, ripe to dried red cherry, berries, oak, cove, licorice, warmth and pot pouri.
The palate shows light body, earth, balsamic notes, medium acidity, drying tannins, alcohol heat despite being low (12.5%), a touch aggressive as it is

A superb bottle of wine - even though opened too soon.
Opaque purple/violet. Medium/high viscosity. A little shy and one dimensional upon opening, showing predominantly well-ripened black fruit and a big imprint of minerality. With air, violets, spice, black cherry, leather. There is a sweetness and remarkable purity to the fruit. Smooth attack. Firm tannic structure. The black fruit persists. Good acidity. Tannins slightly drying. A Flannery ribeye was a perfect pairing!

Sat with the wine for hours and the evolution in the glass was remarkable.

Wait a few years or give a long decant 3+ hours.

Probably popped this a bit too early. You can see the lovely stuff underneath the structure right now but as is typical with young cornas, there is a lot of tannin to wade through. Hold for a couple more years before trying again.

No notes. Fully mature. Wonderfully expressive mature nose, good complexity. This does fade in the glass with extended time, but a fresh pour from the bottle 3 hours out was as good as the first pour. No upside to further aging, so I'll find a time for my other bottle in the near-ish term.

Day 1: slow-ox for 2 hours, the wine is still quite closed, mushrooms, underbrush and it seems to lack concentrarion.
Day 2: this wine came alive lovely red fruit profile as well as mushrooms and a little bit of oak,the tannins are well integrared and it still retains a good level of acidity.
Drinks really well now.

Wow, this is absolutely stunning right now, and I'm glad I was able to give at least one bottle some time in the cellar. The fruit's not as rich and sappy as it was a few years ago on release, and instead it's all about black olive, cured meat, briny, smoky and other savoury and saline elements. The palate presence is really graceful, with the acidity giving it a remarkable sense of freshness and lightness, and I'm left wishing I had cellared more of this instead of drinking so many of my bottles young.

Best bottle yet. Peppery, faintly meaty, savoury and smoky elements around a core of fresh red and dark fruits. Fantastic, classically styled Northern Rhone syrah.
