1/10/2018 - Blair Curtis wrote: 91 pointsThis was quite good, but showed differently than I expected. This was served at a dinner where the other guests did not know what it was - I did. Out of the gate, this showed as pretty forward with boisterous fruit. That caused people to guess that it was from a ripe vintage. Given my experience with white 2007 Burgs, which I love for their crisp acidity and linear presentation, I was surprised with how this showed. People also had trouble pegging this wine as C-C, given how forward it seemed. It was served alongside a 2004 Bouchard C-C, which showed more typicity and seriousness. I don't want to detract from the fact that this really was a quality white Burg, and everyone enjoyed it a lot. But it defied my assumptions about how it would show. The wine is still young - excellent light color and no signs of premature aging. Drink or hold. |

The days of 20-year old Mersaults and Montrachets seem gone, alas. Two lessons emerge from this acid-only, hint of tropical flower in the nose(after 10 minutes), non premox white burgundy: (1) drink white burgundy young despite its aging potential, given premox and this now typical experience; (2) drink more German Mosel Riesling and Donnhoff rielsing-- they age magnificently, are as well made at 1/4 the price and are more versatile food matches. |

2/12/2017 - Tim Heaton Likes this wine: NRFabulous wine, already in a good spot, but it's clear (after the final glass), this has a lot of room to run before it's hit peak. Perhaps it's 2008, or perhaps it is the site, maybe it's both - whatever it is, this is a feather in Girardin's cap, this wine showing excellent freshness, fine balance, very good lift, and solid delineation of red fruits. A kick of spice and soil every so often makes this fun; the really good balance (not something I'm used to with this producer's lesser bottlings), keeps it engaging. If you have some, wait 5 or 10 years, either way you win. recommended |

12/8/2019 - acyso wrote: 93 pointsSunday afternoon wines (Chicago, IL): Have had this wine on multiple occasions now, and it has been consistently great. There's a mild reduction here, but with the expected grand cru depth and weight from the site. The palate shows a hint more reduction and sulphur than I remember, but it doesn't obscure the great material here. I don't know well the premox predisposition at Girardin, but this is a wine that could stand to take more age. |

8/2/2017 - oldwines Likes this wine: 93 points100 Point (Parker or other) Wine Dinner Organized by Steve for 6 "Wine Guys" (The Prime Rib, Philadelphia): Popped and poured to drink with our first course...went particularly well I thought with the spicy soft shell crab as a nice rich counterbalance to the spice. Rich, medium to dark golden yellow color. Nose is very creamy and full of citrus, like meyer lemon, and tangerine and a moderate amount of oak/smoke. Flavor is rich, honeyed and creamy showing a lot of lemon curd on the finish, but I didn't notice a lot of minerality. This had low to moderate acidity and seems to be at the tail end of its peak drinking window though clearly able to have a graceful decline over the next several years in a good cellar. |

1/21/2017 - Tim Heaton Likes this wine: NRHard to argue and of the points that dchain makes in his/her note of Sept 2016. Which is to say, this comes across as 1er material and NOT GC worthy. While there's a fair amount to enjoy (as a simple companion to food), it never really becomes exciting in any way, it never reveals any nuance or chance for hidden nuances. Agree with others, not sure there's really any reason to let this age any longer. Good, but short of very good or excellent; leans modern, with some gratuitous flab. 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

12/29/2015 - ashegedyn Likes this wine: NRTime has been kind to this wine. This is more complex now. You really get that Vosne like spice on the nose. The oak is not obtrusive anymore and it is integrating nicely. Really deep flavours and this is only just getting integrated to be a nice Echezeaux. It should teach me to be patient with Grand Cru wines. This wine is just turning the corner from being awkward to being on point. |

1/9/2019 - Rezy13 wrote: NRVincent Girardin Tasting (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): From 60+ year old vines; steely yellow green; softer nose, lime zest, some matchstick, mineral, quite linear but fairly coiled and not showing everything; opens nicely on the palate, some custard richness without the fat, very taut and tense, electric with crackly acid and saline finish; still very young I would give this some time to unfurl and soften a touch. |

8/3/2019 - jnewman77 Likes this wine: NRI thought this was quite good; the nose has some exotic fruit of pineapple and passionfruit, followed by green apple, lemon peel, and peach pie. There is a hint of hazelnut and minerality as well. The palate has good density and improves with air; almost gains energy and finishes beautifully. Very good. |

10/19/2023 - Wine Canuck wrote: 92 pointsThis pours light ruby in the glass with touches of purple and pink. The nose is expressive, especially after 24 hours of air showing dark cherry, raspberry, orange peel, dry rocky soil, cinnamon stick, peonies, and nascent notes of forest undergrowth. The palate shows considerable structure entering on the rich cherry fruit, turning to medium tannin and medium acid. The finish lingers nicely, and while not terribly long, the profile is quite pretty replaying much of the nose. All in all this is very enjoyable and in my view very classically Volnay. A really nice expression of 2016 red burgundy with some nice drinking ahead of it. I'll wait 10+ years to revisit. |

1/2/2015 - Tim Heaton Likes this wine: NRMy last of three, and still showing well, though it is certainly time to drink up. Light-medium bodied, the perfumes take their time to unfold - the palate/flavors, too, take their time. Audozed 4 hours, re-corked and served 4 hours later, this continued to develop in the glass gaining some complexity and depth as it did. Never quite got to medium-bodied, which was fine as this was paired with salads and light appetizers. 13,0% abv, drink now. |

7/1/2015 - capacious Likes this wine: 93 pointsI imagine burgs probably elicit the individual variance in us more than many other wines- because the variation in how Pinot manifests even in the small area of burgundy is so considerable. Well, this is how I like a burgundy, silky smooth, with finesse and focus, lengthy, anything but "hearty" floral, feminine. We fell in love with burgs during a visit 31 years ago during a scientific meeting, and cost be damned, it's a love affair with so many partners. Love this wine. |

3/2/2015 - bestdamncab Likes this wine: 92 pointsNose of red and black cherry fruit, forest floor, and touch of barnyard, bright, plum color in the glass, more of the same on the palate, both rustic and elegant at the same time, worth the $72 at auction, medium body, mouth filling and good complexity on the mid palate, medium/long finish. |

5/21/2019 - Aravind Asok wrote: NRFrom half btl. A very dense style of Volnay. Nose with loads of strawberry and wild blackberry, and almost a plummy note. Loads of extract on the palate, with black raspberry and strawberry, and an almost hoisin/coffee like sweet and savory note. Finely grained and somewhat densely packed tannin on the finish....not really lithe and elegant, but more of a bruiser (and this was after tasting through a bunch of Harmand-Geoffroy wines which showed a lot of finesse). Kind of a head scratcher for me, but good with the roast pork loin we had a lunch. |

9/14/2018 - AllRed wrote: 95 pointsCourtesy of m/m TLV. Deep color, showing more mature than I'd have expected but certainly nowhere close to over-the-hill. Fairly deep color. Aromas of lemon curd and pastry dough with a nice underlying stony minerality. Rich texture, with lemon curd and nutty qualities on the palate with a nice mineral-tinged finish that lingered for a good while...nice long, rich finish. Likely a one-off showing older than its eight years would suggest. |
