The bottle and cork were an excellent shape, as someone clearly took excellent care of this wine over the years (thank you). It poured a dark, crimson red with slight bricking on the edges with a nice nose of plums and autumn leaves. But where this really shines is on the palate with the Red fruits and sweet tobacco playing together seamlessly, and all washed down with plenty of acidity and a medium bodied finish. Not quite as structured as their cabs (no kidding, it's a merlot), but absolutely delicious and like almost all Carneros Creek wines, it has aged incredibly well. |

Beautiful (slightly green apple) smell, with pretty vanilla, cream, and a kiss of oak. Most impressive! Palate is very delicate, not as forthcoming as the nose, but definitely attractive and fine as can be. Excellent in an elegant, delicate style. Bravo. Like a feather on the palate. Wow! 4-13-16-8: 91/100. |

But what really stands out is how fresh the wine is. Just waves of acidity. Literally mouth-watering. So much so that I was actually taken back a little bit on my first sip (in a good way). And look at that color! I've had bottles of this before but this was the best one yet. Fingers crossed the other two that I have show as well. And as always....bonus points for being a birth-year wine :) |

Historically I've had more success with their zins (and the 1975 Petite Sirah!), but this cab was awesome! Red fruits, tobacco, and a distinct menthol/eucalyptus note that took things to the next level. Even my Mom dug it, and she does not drink much wine.....especially red wine. Life is good! |

Based on the other Carneros Creek bottles that I've procured, this must have been from the 1970's, so I assume it would be illegal to release a wine without the abv listed, right?? Surely someone out there smarter than myself will know the answer. Oh....and the wine was all red fruits and cinnamon with plenty of acidity which has kept it fresh. Medium bodied goodness that far exceeded expectations. I am always blown away by how well these CC wines have aged! |
