On the nose, blackberries, bramble, blackcurrant, herbal notes. On the palate, cool fruit is still very much present, black cherries and ribena, finished with notes of tobacco, along with wonderful acid and broad tannins. Well balanced, alcohol does not stand out at all. Medium length finish, carried by the acidity and fruit. I’m very impressed by how it held up. It’s aged really well, and is drinking superbly on opening - however, it does fall apart after 30 minutes. Drink now, it will continue to decline from here. To think I paid $14 dollars for this?! Good value. |

According to my notes, I liked the last bottle far better than the previous and so on. Well, that trend continues as this bottle is clearly the best of the four bottle lot that I purchased online so many years ago. While the previous iterations were laden with Brett and a bit of reticence that one only experiences in the most austere instances, this wine is, well, stellar. And it's a wine of conflict: Fruity, yet austere; fresh, yet stewed; round, yet tart. Whoa. I don't know if I have ever tasted a wine that was initially so aggressive and standoff-ish, but evolved into a megatron--powerful, beautiful, elegant. OK, my Transformers references need work. Doesnt not have the complexity of the best CDP, but comes together so well with sphaghetti alla vodka. Flavors of smoked cherries, kumquats, and mint. Velvety smooth. A tinge of alcohol at end which I don’t love . Yummy wine! |
