I don't know enough about Lebanon to say if this is characteristic; certainly it has much in common with a good Northern Rhone Syrah, and very little with, say, a Barossa Shiraz. Would I recommend it? Yes, but at about £40 it's a pretty hefty investment. There are many truly great Syrahs and Shirazes in that price area, and I'm not 100% convinced this has sufficient sophistication beyond its immediate bold appeal to make it worth that kind of price tag. By the way, it seems very youthful; it will age for another five years at least and probably ten. 14.5%, cork. |

The plate has an edginess marked leather notes, a dash of spice, baked blackberry pie and a hint of dried cherries nearing a light balsamic. This is nicely balanced by dry, compact, and somewhat puckering tannins. It does has some flesh to fill out the mid-palate and concludes with dried earth. Onto a medium finish. Fairly robust stuff. |

In the mouth, tannins are medium (-) with ripe mellow texture, acidity is medium-high, not oaky, everything is soft/smooth and balanced like a good corbiere, but the aftertaste has sweet/warm voluptuousness as if it were Grenache (although it is Carignan). Polished and unpretentious, stayed consistently good over 5 days (modest/simple wine but bonus 1 point for hidden durability). |

The mainly dark cherry fruit developed in the glass and the attractive accompanying tannins were earthy and spicy. Good balance and very good with food, especially later when the soft balance veered slightly to show more acidity. |
