The second vintage of this excellent Central CA Albarino that I have tried. Like the 2020, this is a crisp clear dry wine with flavors of peach/nectarine and a touch of citrus. The result is a very pleasant experience. It has a moderate body without oiliness. Attractively priced for such a high quality wine.. A nice alternative to the sweeter and fruitier Sauvignon Blancs from the same region.

Pale yellow in the glass. Full-bodied and delicious. Very balanced in all its flavors. We liked this one so much that we took 2 home!

Very pale in color and lacking aromatics. Light on the palate with some ginger on the finish. We thought this would pair well with food and took one home.

While I am very fond of Rhone style Grenache-Syrah-Mourvedre blends, I generally do not like Grenache as a 100% varietal. This Grenache with a pretty light red color and an equally light body would seem meant to be perfect for blending with stronger partners. But it also works pretty well on its own --- a nice acidic taste and a clean smooth finish make it a pleasant wine for lighter meals.

Clean, pale ruby appearance
Clean, medium plus aroma with notes of cranberry, strawberry, pepper and petriochor. Faint note of cloves, no discernible tertiary aromas
Dry, medium acidity, with medium plus still grippy tranins, medium alcohol and medium body. Pronounced flavor intensity, with similar elements to aromoa leading with cranberry and increasing presence of cloves and dried fruit.

This is an very good to outstanding wine. Excellent value, and is a terrific representation of both new world wine making informed by old world granacha.

I obviously drank this now, but I think it will continue to get interesting for at least a little while longer.

After trying the '18 which was fantastic I purchased this vintage. Although not as good as the previous year this is still one of the better California grenaches I have had. Will hold off on opening anymore and see what the future brings.

Pale straw. Medium intensity white nectarine aromas. Hefty palate - almost a bit oily. Dry. Slightly elevated alcohol - 13.5? Medium acid, medium bitterness. It’s quite nice with a little chill!

Refreshing with acidity and salinity. Then fruit flavors kick in, some kiwi and lemon citrus. Touch of sweetness on finish.

13,6% alcohol and 5,4 g/l acidity. Tasted blind.

Pale, translucent blood-red color with a colorless rim. Fragrant nose full of aromas of strawberries and cherry jam, some spicy tones, a little bit of Pinosity, light woody nuances and a hint of dank herby character. The wine feels ripe, juicy and somewhat sweet-toned on the palate with a moderately full body and vibrant, sunny flavors of strawberries, sweet cherries and meaty umami, some peppery tones, a little bit of savory Pinosity, light woody tones, a hint of crunchy red plum and a touch of smoke. The wine is moderately high in acidity with supple, gentle medium tannins. The finish is vibrant, ripe and somewhat spicy with flavors of red plums, some gamey and meaty tones, a little bit of peppery spice and savory Pinosity, light woody nuances, a hint of strawberry and a touch of dank aromatic herbs.

Strawberry tones could easily point out to both Grenache and warm-climate Pinot Noir - and many other varieties - but based on the savory, spicy tones, nice acidity and just general Pinosity, I guessed this must be a Pinot Noir from a warmer climate, so I guessed a Santa Maria Pinot Noir. Well, this turned out to be a Central Coast Grenache! Stylistically showing more freshness, brightness and that savory spiciness than the sweeter, softer and heftier Southern Rhône Grenache wines, but not coming across as dense and chewy as the more structured Spanish Garnachas. A fine wine that avoids the typical pitfalls of Grenache, working as a great stand-in for a new world Pinot Noir. Perhaps a bit pricey for the quality at 30,70€, but not prohibitively so.

Straw in the glass. Nose of bright citrus, balanced by the sweetness of honeydew melon. A tasty palate with grapefruit zest on the finish. Super fresh. We would have bought more if we could have.

Interesting varietal. Salinity apparent with citrus peel. In body and structure, reminiscent of a sauv bland or Riesling. Might seek Spanish renditions in future

Ripe red plums, ripe red cherries, fresh cracked black pepper, espresso grounds, mocha, smoke and dark chocolate on the nose. Great intensity of aromas. The palate is pretty consistent with the nose; and thankfully keeps the intensity. A lot of sediment.

Medium + body, medium - tannins that are almost fully resolved. Drink this now. After 9 years, it will not benefit from any further aging.

Wonderful Grenache with notes of light berries, rhubarb, and some sweetness (I guess from the american oak). reminded me almost of Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara. Very enjoyable and should be served around 16-17 degrees.
One to look for again.

Another hit from vintner Ian Brand. Light garnet color, fruit and spice nose, and a very good mouth feel. More substance than many Grenache or GSM wines. A touch of sweetness and a medium light body. A thoroughly pleasant wine.

I have not done a systematic study, but it is my impression that an increasing number of American vintners are bringing out Albarinos. It is a welcome trend as with Viognier it provides a good alternative to the rivers of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. This La Marea Albarino is certainly the best I have tried outside of Spain. A crisp clear dry wine with flavors of peach/nectarine and a touch of citrus results in a very pleasant experience. It has a moderate body without oiliness. Attractively priced for such a high quality wine.

Value Grenache from the Central Coast. Consumed over three days in a countertop test for agabillity. Perfect cork easily removed. Light ruby color with excellent clarity. Aromas & flavors of strawberry & red cherry. Held up well through day three and this light & fruity Grenache will survive a decade.

Very clean nose, with lemon, mineral, and oyster shell. Strong acid on the palate as well, very fresh. This came across a little austere, but presumably it needs a few more months in the bottle.
