The nose is of coconut scented sunscreen, burnt coconut shavings, roasted fruit, alcohol, overripe strawberries, and old furniture. The palate comes across a tad hollow, light on fruit, heavy on structure. Tannin is medium, with medium plus acid. The finish closes on quite bitter and overripe notes. I ultimately landed on guessing a relatively youthful Rioja but from a hot year. Can't say I was a fan of this at all. |

Ripe blackberries, dried figs, sweet liquorice, vanilla, and toasted nuts. I was expecting it to be a good “cellar defender”, but I’ll be leaving the bottles I have left alone for a while. Overall, a great wine that definitely will become more complex in a few years. But if you like young, tannic Rioja that still offers some complexity, then decant and enjoy |

Black fruit with herb, dill, which makes this feel so fresh, and that oak… Not much producer can handle oak like this. So elegant with proper tannin and acidity. An overpowering wall of modern vanilla oak sheen hits you immediately, this needs much more time in bottle to get over that. Glossy, smooth dark fruit, a lick of tannin - drinking nicely but the wood treatment is excessive at this stage and masks the wine underneath. We were out of food by this stage which likely did not help. Luckily there's enough good fruit and acidity to let this slumber and absorb the oak. From a magnum, which presumably needs even more time. |

Beyond the veneer, burnt sugar caramelization starting to emerge, along with deep mahogany and amarena cherry notes. High acidity, tannins notably softening through the mid palate. The evolution here is fantastic, zero stewed or prune characteristics, this is balancing maillard umami influence perfectly against a background of bright, dark fruit. Potential for 98+, revisit in three more years. |
