3/26/2024 - Javachip Likes this wine: 92 pointsAllowed to breathe in glass 1 hour. Clear dark garnet red color. Lovely notes of cherries, figs, leather, stony red soil, hints of balsamic and prunes. Full body, plush, seamless, balanced, pleasantly tart and tannic. |

2/17/2024 - repoper wrote: 94 pointsWhat a pleasant surprise. When I pulled the cork it was barely saturated, maybe 1/8" of a very long cork. I let it slow ox all day and then we took it to a restaurant where it was poured into some very small glasses. Right away you could see how dark, inpentrabale color was. The nose was a subtile bouquet black cherries, strawberries, raspberries, a bit of smoke and tar. The wine was in total balance and just danced across our pallets. Enough tannin and acid to keep it fresh. As it sat during the course of dinner it just kept unfolding and mellowing out in a really good way. It still has a lot of life left for a 23 year old wine. I have one more and I would say that, properly stored, will last another 10+ years. Tonight very fine. |

2/14/2024 - Montesquieu Likes this wine: 93 pointsAn excellent bottle that fully rewards its cellaring. Plenty of tar, dry cigar, and a bit of tertiary barnyard. Big and meaty. Penultimate bottle from a case. Picked on Valentine's Day in honor of our twins born in December 2006. My wife was carrying them when we vacationed in Tuscany and Amalfi, October 2006. If you own, now's a great time to enjoy. |

3/22/2016 - Mossrose wrote: 93 pointsDark ruby with no black tones. Very aromatic red and black cherry. Enters the mouth softly with lightly drying tannin and gentle acidity, both of which get somewhat firmer after the swallow. Good by itself but amazingly good and versatile with foods. Repeatedly bested the Pinot Noirs tasted just before it as a food companion. Finishes long, tasty, and dry. |

6/29/2018 - Mossrose wrote: 93 pointsAn excellent Brunello and superb value at $25. See through on the first day, but opaque with purple bubbles from the second day on. At 10 years old, wonderfully rounded, integrated, and deliciously fruity. A first day astringency for the acid and tannin subsided the next day. Strong black and red cherry fruit throughout. Highly enjoyable by itself and wonderful with a host of foods. |

11/12/2023 - RGCM Gananda Likes this wine: 92 pointsPrior bottle was a year ago and this wine remains in a very good spot. Black cherry on the nose with just a bit of earth and spice undertones and is generally dark black cherry and brighter black cherry. Between medium and full bodied with very pretty and expressive black cherry upfront, adding darker black cherry and plum through the middle. Some hints of red cherry and strawberry in the background. The mid-body has a bit more depth than the 2009. Tannins are more fine-grained now than they were a year ago and along with the acidity, are in better balance with the fruit overall. Finishes with earth, spices and minerals. The flavor profile was quite similar to the 2009, but this wine was a touch deeper and darker and this 2010 also had more structure, while the 2009 felt a bit more refined and elegant. It was actually still a little tight when first opened and needed 4+ hours open to truly show it's best. If opening now, I'd decant. This wine has a number of years in front of it and still has room for positive evolution. I may prefer this ever so slightly over the 2009; just personal preference. This was my final bottle as well as my final bottle from this producer. Since this winery no longer exists, I'm very glad it was able to go out on such a high note. |

11/11/2023 - RGCM Gananda Likes this wine: 92 pointsPrior bottle was a year ago and this wine continues to show quite well. Mostly black cherry on the nose now and even plum (just a hint of red cherry) along with earth, spices, minerals and floral notes. Medium bodied with black cherry upfront, moving to plum through the mid-body with some tart black and red cherry notes towards the back. The mid-body is beautiful with rounded, open and expressive fruit. There are some hints of red cherry, but it's mostly black cherry and plum now. Behind there are integrated, fine-grained tannins and just a touch of acidity to go along with the tart fruit notes. Finishes with minerals and earth notes. Really pleased by how well this wine has come together. The mid-body and transition from mid-body to finish both continues to be strengths. This wine is drinking very well at present and should be able to hold this level through the next couple of years. Glad my last bottle could go out on such a high note. |

(I'm a big fan of Primoz. 2006 is my twins' birth year.) This one had dusty notes, gravel, dirt, and lots of fully dehydrated red and black fruit. Bottles are on their gentle decline. |

5/20/2023 - neuron Likes this wine: 90 pointsPaired with veal saltimbocca. Nice fruit on nose and palate, early finish a.bit rough, like toothpaste. Fortunately, this blew off in about ten minutes, with more appropriate wine flavors on finish. A little too light and a little too short to be a solid recommendation. |

4/17/2023 - WineAwayWhine Likes this wine: 95 pointsDelicious bottle from the famed 2010 vintage. Dried cherries, dried roses, leather, cedar. Tobacco, vanilla and earth. Tannins at this point are well integrated but firm. Acid is high. Alcohol m+ showing perfectly well with Lamb Bolognese. |

4/1/2023 - Montesquieu Likes this wine: 93 pointsThird time I've rated this wine and fifth time I've consumed. Tonight's bottle was terrific. Fully mature in its secondary fungal phase. This bottle certainly shows peak mushroom and intensity. My prior bottle wasn't nearly as good. If you have them, drink and enjoy the wine at its apex. For how many more years? I don't know, but would guess 2-4. My twin boys' birthyear is 2006, and I'll save some of the remaining 7 bottles for 2027+. But if I didn't have that destination in mind, I'd say drink now to enjoy this wine's peak. |

1/18/2023 - RichardP wrote: 94 pointsPlum and autumn leaves on the nose. On the palate, beautiful red fruits and berries - strawberry, cherry, currant - overlaid with tertiary earthy notes of autumn leaves, soy sauce, rhubarb, and leather, with moderate tannins and good acidity. I can't imagine this getting any better; it's time to drink it. It was far more complex and interesting than I expected, and it was a bargain at under $40. |

11/8/2022 - RGCM Gananda Likes this wine: 92 pointsPrior bottle was 15 months ago and this wine continues to show quite well. Earthy black cherry, dark black cherry and brighter black cherry on the nose along with earth and light spices on the nose. Between medium and full bodied with mostly black cherry upfront now, showing both roundness as well as some contrasting strawberry notes. Mid-body continues to show good depth with black cherry upfront, leading to plum in the back. Acidity and tannins continue to come into balance with the fruit. Finishes with spices, minerals and earth notes. As compared to the 2009, this wine shows a bit more depth through the middle, a bit more structure to go along with it and a generally more black fruit based profile. Should continue to come together and I'll plan to open my last bottle in Fall 2023. |

11/7/2022 - RGCM Gananda Likes this wine: 92 pointsPrior bottle was 15 months ago and this wine remains in a great spot and continues to show incremental, positive improvement. Red and black cherry, along with earth, spices, mineral and floral notes on the nose. Between medium and full bodied with rounded, open and quite expressive red cherry upfront. The black cherry and the plum through the middle have become more distinct. The combination of depth and roundness through the middle with the structure behind leaves the wine feeling fresh and balanced. Tannins behind are nicely integrated with the fruit as is the acidity. They bridge to a finish which shows mildly tart red/black cherry, minerals and earth. Overall balance in this wine continues to improve but in a fashion where the structure doesn't disappear. Quite pleased and impressed with how this wine has evolved and I'll save my last bottle for Fall 2023. |

10/25/2022 - CondorKhan wrote: 91 pointsInitially not very impressive, with basically just stewed cherry fruit, but after a week under Pungo it improved considerably, adding more freshness and lift to the fruit, along with licorice, orange peel and a very delicious velvety texture. Acidity is medium and tannins are fully resolved. Drink up. Very good with (wait for it) broccoli beef from the local Chinese takeout. Give it some aeration time, it pays off. |
