At $50 or so this has great QPR. Complex, some depth and a touch of brioche and creaminess. I think the time on lees has helped. Almost as good as vintage Arras at a fraction of the price. This has matured since release - the lemony intensity has dialed down and replaced with complexity so I think it is drinking well now.

(Mich&Bo) Finely developed, translucent garnet in glass with still vibrant purples and ruby. Well developed leafy dark florals, wood spices. Elegant acid structure. Clean, sweet tobacco leaf, roasted ripe capsicum, lifted acidity. Special and reminiscent of well aged bordeaux. What an incredible bottle - thanks Mich!

(Mich&Bo) Dark translucent purple garnet in glass. Surprising concentration on the nose, chook poo and barnyard nose. With time, gives way to dark florals, wet moss and leafy vegetation. Sweet fruits, balanced with finely resolved tannins. Drinking at a great place, surprising power and vigor, youthful yet resolved. Yum!

This is an excellent example of an aged Tasmanian riesling. The fruit/acid balance is near perfect. The hue is yellow with green tints. It is far from being in the gold to light brown phase. The flavour has almost no trace of the toasty or petroleum-like characters usually associated with Australian aged rieslings. It remains fruit forward and fresh. Just delightful!

Drunk from a magnum with a cork in a wonderful state and no ullage so as good as it gets. This is still alive but very tertiary obviously. Oodles of leather and raspberry/cranberry waft up invitingly. Strong leather/cranberry on palate that got better with airing. Hint of volatile acidity that tells you it isn't that far from decay time so DRINK UP if anyone still has this in their cellar. 12.2% alcohol from the time before climate change made Tassie fruit high alcohol like the mainland. Cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc blend. Wonder if it was cofermented to be tasting so well at the quarter century mark.

Terroir-istes International - France, Burgundy 1999 Vintage (Rodwell House): Light to medium garnet but a little dull.
The nose starts restrained but gently lifts to a perfume with raspberry notes.
The palate entry is more potent than the nose suggests with better intensity, and the raspberry leaps higher, suggesting a new world origin. Reasonably complex with perfume, sea salt and firm, compact tannins, this seems a Gevrey styling from the New World. Good depth of fruit, long and complex. Brilliant wine! What a difference 15 months make. Perhaps the other bottle may have been comprised slightly?

Terroir-istes International - New Zealand Pinot Noir & Sauvignon Blanc (Rodwell House): Very light garnet, the bouquet centres on worn saddle leather & jam, indicating a warmer climate than Tasmania. There is a thread of acidity but little fruit to hang on the dry tannins. Some richness from alcohol but lacks elegance and is relatively short.

Pipers Brook Pinot Gris is made in a full bodied style with some oak maturation and skin contact for added mouthfeel and texture, this is a dry complex example of the variety with flavours of pear and crisp minerality
overall certainly opened up as it warmed up so serve at room temperature next time

Strawberry colour, with lifted nose and savoury notes. Spice, cinnamon and medium acidity with prominent oak +/- skin tannins. Definite food wine and a lovely match with Quiche Lorraine. As the wine warmed and opened up the only question was whether the fruit could carry the oak treatment. 13.2% ABV. Burgundy clearly the inspiration here. 90-91 points.

A bit of a brave punt to try this given it's age. As an act of vinous necrophilia I wasn't really expecting much. Shrivelled cork, Gentle hiss of air, bubbles for 15 minutes. Copper gold colour. Oxidised sherry like nose. Structure of wine is sound, still some fruit, clean acid finish but overlaying that is the all pervading oxidised sherry tones which makes a wine of two layers really. Not fair to score it. Wonder if it would have made the distance if it was under a crown seal and kept at the bottom of Bass Strait for 24 years??

Dark berries, mossy undergrowth, hints chook poo, exotic dark florals, some age starting to show, ripe plums, ripe boysenberries, streak mandarin peel and citrus florals, fresh mulch. Concentrated juicy berries, sweetness with lithe acidity, ashy bitters, ripe peach, great silky supple structure. Long minty finish, soft black ash, graphite and elegant. Well developed, possibly peak, and time to drink up. Very slight hints of age.
