First review here after spending +500k on wine and reading CT for very Long. Bought the 2012 1.5l at Mövenpick my local dealer last week. Perfectly stored. Opening this Monday afternoon l (in the wine cellar 16c) ... wowowowow !!! Had Canon la g 2014 and cheval b 2005 and pc last night - out of the mgn this is the perfect round, Uber velvet, super deep and perfect wine. Ready to die. The only only reason not 100 is this is my first here ...

Drank over two days. This was not big bodied, this was not full bodied, in fact it was very light on its feet. This was very primary, this was very intense but one dimensional, not complex. Acidity was off the charts, tart, surprisingly. This was another disappointment from the '12 vintage for me.

Spottswood is not the wine to drink young. If you have any left, try them in 2025 and you will be surprised (or this is just not the type of wine you like).

Fruit-forward, balanced, but nothing exciting. Tannins still prominent - perhaps needs more time?

Rubino limpido, tendente al granato. Suadente al naso; arriva morbido e nitido. Leggeri tocchi speziati. Astringente al palato, ma subito dopo rotondo e intenso. Fitto sulla lingua. Molto persistente. Frutti rossi, IL sangiovese!

A very impressive entry level champagne from bouchard. Very fresh with a good mix of fruits but also a great minerality. Drink this now or in the next couple of years.

Still intense dark fruit but starting to integrate and showing some secondary layers. Drink now or in the next 10 years.

Wow! Following Eric's tip, I ordered this at Jack's Brasserie, Bern. It was phenomenal. Deep concentration and stunning length. Fruit was so massive that you could forget the tannins were there, though this very young wine had them of course. So disappointed to find that the retail price is more than I paid for it in the restaurant. Feel like a fool for not buying this on release.

Far different compared to last year. Plenty of red fruit, some coffee and some toffee from the nose. Takes getting used to this soft and candied ripe style.
Taste was also very coffee-toffee'ish (caramel dominated) and packed with an assortment of tremendously ripe fruit. Besides that some more undeveloped flavours of herbs and cabbage. Some decent tartness, too.
At the moment I was under the impression that this one might need quite some time for self-construction. The flavours seemed a bit apart. Better hold this one!

Not a good wine. Fruit, oak and some sour tones. New world nebbiolo or a bad vintage I thought.

10/31/2014 1:51:00 AM - Altare does a very modern Barolo. Many people are complaining about it (even in his own family :). Guess this one is not your style, that's ok of course. But the quality of the wine itself is definitely better than your rating or you got a bad bottle?!

If a wine is rated by just 2 persons the points are not always what the wine really is. But if many people give there comment and points it get's better and helpful.

At the time I drunk the wine it was very young and fruit foreward. Some like it some not. Anyway, I sill think that this wine has the potential of a 92 points wine.

3-hour decant, then 4-hour slow ox. consumed over 4 hours. absolutely spectacular. I'm finding that I like Maggie's wines young with a solid decant. this just screamed with roasted blackberry, black cherry, carpaccio, and BBQ spice. in the mouth this was silky yet invasive, and the finish was ridiculously long, tumbling around without wanting you to forget her. this has been my standout wine of 2013. 97-98.

  • Comment posted by jctra:

2/10/2013 1:39:00 AM - Good answer! But for me that is one of the big values. Having a number of ratings from the community, people like you and me, tells much more than one Robert Parker or anybody.
And normally I'm not gonna read all the comments. My fault ;-)

Excellent with rich chicken dishes last night and tonight. Not nearly as good without food. Similar to Villa Antinori Toscana that is $5 cheaper at Empire Wine.
I'm wondering though if there aren't other red wine blends that are just as good as either of these. But until I find them these are two of my favorite wines.
