Old nose of strawberries and smoke. Excellent tartness, pretty tasty. Not dead, but should be consumed now.

Soft and mild nose. I believe this is my first white Chateauneuf du Pape, and the aromas remind me of Northern Rhone whites- cotton, sugar cubes, hints of lavender. Sweet up front with a silky progression into notes of cotton and lavender. Paired with raw East Coast oysters.

Bright happy nose. The palate is darker and more complex-fall leaves, apple crisp, honey. Such a contrast between nose and palate. Evolving and contemplative. The hype behind this wine is real. Paired well with Walrus ice cream.

The nose hits you like a cannonball. Gunpowder, campfire, pinyon pine, smoke, rhubarb, plums, red fruit, black pepper. This is what I would want my dream cabin to smell like. Bright, tart, lively red fruit. Tart cherries, alert acidity. Undertones of cinnamon and lemon zinger tea (the energetic acidity). Dynamic and complex. Deep, yet not contemplative; more adventurous. Very long finish.

3/14/2016 12:22:00 PM - I believe I got it from Wine Barrel Plus. Yes I drank this on my birthday. It was awesome; very similar to the '89 Ridge Cab I had recently but more feisty and the acidity was lively.

2010 Le Macchiole Paleo Rosso

Toscana IGT Cabernet Franc more

4/25/2015 - Doc90 Likes this wine: 93 points

Wines With A View (Capitol Grille Tasting Event) (The Spire): This was one of my favorites of the tasting. Totally open and accessible, seems to be maturing early and opening up beautifully. Cedar and smoke scents swirl in the glass, with violets and damp earth as well. Very complex, dynamic and energetic structure. Lots of Italian style earth and leather. Powerful tannins. Nothing like a French or Napa Cabernet Franc. This would be hard to criticize.

9/13/2015 7:48:00 AM - Hey Dave- this has the structure to age so waiting a few years would probably help it. However, I found it to be surprisingly expressive and enjoyable now. If you have more than one, I would open one now and enjoy it. But if you only have one, there's absolutely no rush as this has the stamina to lay down for a while. Hope that helped.

9/13/2015 8:12:00 AM - I would maybe get one bottle to try it, and then you will know how much you like it and how long you want to let your large format bottle sit. I wouldn't say this is a "thrilling" wine, but I thought it was deserving of 93 pts given it's depth, earth, and "soul".

1/13/2016 9:40:00 AM - Dave-What are the other double magnums? This is a great wine, but I couldn't guarantee it would live up to the expectations of your 70th birthday wine. Although I do believe it would be better than any New World Cab Franc.

1/16/2016 4:26:00 PM - Dave-yes either of those two sound promising. I get excited about Radici, but I'm not sure if that 2008 will be ready in four years; probably with a heavy decanting. Regardless it sounds like you have got some great wine options for your party.

2011 Cayuse Syrah Armada Vineyard

Walla Walla Valley more

4/25/2015 - Doc90 Does not like this wine: 83 points

Wines With A View (Capitol Grille Tasting Event) (The Spire): This was my first time having a wine from Cayuse, and it did not leave a good first impression. Both nose and palate were completely overwhelmed by black pepper and capers. Really thin bodied, notes of cranberries. This tasted like a $20 Oregon Pinot Noir. Which isn’t to say that there aren’t a lot of good $20 Oregon Pinots out there. But this masquerading as a $100+ Syrah just seemed a little offensive.

4/27/2015 5:07:00 PM - Definitely possible. I had this at a restaurant-run tasting event, so I have no idea how it was stored etc. It did seem really odd for a Syrah with a good reputation.

  • Comment posted by Doc90:

4/27/2015 5:41:00 PM - Unfortunately I have no idea what the storing conditions were for this bottle, or if there was any cork taint. Several people agreed that it seemed to have a bitter, off-putting flavor. That and the light body make me suspect that you are right about it being flawed.
