The price is the first thing that hits you.

At $90.00 it's way overpriced and I feel the vineyard tried to make a landmark signature wine but missed the mark.

The wine on the nose is light/mineral/slate/flint like mixed with wet iron and some sort of herb .
The colour is light gold
The taste is light /lemon/lime .
There is grip on the tongue astringent on the front lips dry and slightly acidic.

It will probably improve over the next 5 years but at the moment it tastes raw and young.
I can't see them selling much of this at the price so look for discounts or make an offer.

    4/21/2020 5:55:00 PM - Most Hunter valley Semillons I rate around 95 points and the quality is high in the $30.00 to $35.00 price bracket. Ones like the Tyrell's Belford Semillon is high class for around the $50.00 mark. A Gundog wild Semillon is also very good for around the $30.00 mark.

The first thing I did when tasting this was to compare it to the Eagles Rest Maluna Block 2012 Chardonnay from the Hunter valley.

The Glenelly is very hard to find in Australia and it was only offered by one online retailer so, I expect it is better known in the USA and the UK.

This particular wine from Glenelly is a very well balanced wine.

Even though it has spent 2 months more on Oak than the Maluna block it is much better integrated into the wine.
At first you can smell the oak and the alcohol and then you begin to expect an oak driven wine.
But that is far from the truth.
The wine is finely balanced and that is not by chance.
The oak is but a hint on the tongue and the fruit shows more so than the Hunter valley offering.
The finish is clean and lingers just a tad, the colour light the body light.
Slight acid/astringent to the front and that feeling remains on the front of the tongue for a few seconds.
At first tasting, I prefer this to the Aussie Chardonnay.
Their suggested retail is the same at $50.00AU and James Halliday gave the Eagles Rest 96 points and Tim Atkins gave the Glenelly 95 . Also a couple of Golds .
My scores, however, favor the South African wine.

The first time I tasted a South African wine was in London in 2010 and I was surprised by the Sav/blanc
Again in 2012 I had another bottle, again a Sav/blanc in Paris and once again it left me with a positive impression.
In fact, I believe South Africa make very good wines and I am surprised they aren't more readily available in Oz which is a darn shame.

A light to medium bodied wine similar to some Pinot Noir's I have tasted .
At $100.00AU to $70.00AU it is overpriced .
As I have said before unless these wines are 97 points and over you are better off with a $40.00AU to $50.00Au bottle .
The fruit is light, medium weight at best, still a bit of oak on the nose but I can smell the alcohol pushing through but not unpleasant.
The wine is medium light flavour quite asrtingent/acid all the way to the middle of the tongue.
probably another 2 or 3 years will see it soften and improve .
But for now it's 94 points from me.

The wine is still showing alcohol on the nose....it's not killing it yet.
The wine on first approach is very smooth and fruit driven, there is a little acid at the front and some light tannin to the side.
I think maybe this has actually improved since my first tasting so its an extra point to 95.

You can still pick this for $70.00AU

Can't believe it improved in 6 months but it did.

Can't believe this wine actually settled and improved.
Pretty smooth drinking.
Light oak and a lick of alcohol on the nose could be some pepper showing as well

In the case of this wine they could not even bother to put a premium label on the bottle to at least let you think you are getting something special . Personally i find the French are the worst offenders, wines way way way overpriced because of the name on the bottle.

Very drinkable but not worth the 68 bucks claimed for RRP at the cellar door. Obvious deal for vinomofo and was never available from the source.

    The 2013 was available on Langton's and the 2014 is available at the cellar door . I checked before I made my purchase of the 2014 to verify the pricing and availability also Tony keys reviews this wine and i doubt he would have had to approach Vinomofo to get a bottle.
