Had a group of wine geeks over last weekend. One friend asked if he could pull anything from my cellar and serve it blind. This is what he got. He pulled this cold from the cellar and after he pulled the cork decided it probably should be decanted. The wine had not been stood erect. Initially I thought it was a Cabernet Franc from the Loire Valley in a lean year. After about an hour it began to warm up and open up. Tar, leather and wet earth. I have had this wine once before and it was first rate. I'll never know what this wine would have been like if treated properly.
