Drank last nite at Le Poisson with the Milets. What a fabulous bottle of wine! I've had this one before, but it's been a long while & I had forgotten (until EM reminded me of my last note from 2021, which btw shows some differences between then and now).
Opened at home for 90 minutes, then decanted at the restaurant (remember to decant for at least 1-2 hrs in future). The restaurant was dark, but there is perhaps some slight bricking at the edges, but no otherwise noticeable signs of age. Exuberant nose of black fruit, pencil shavings, forest floor & tobacco--perhaps some slight green pepper or woodsiness as well. Btw, this wine is easily mistakable as coming from the left bank, given its wonderful qualities. Medium-full bodied, still with a good amount of tannins, though a bit grittier than my prior tastings would indicate; there's still quite concentrated ripe black fruit, and the wine itself is quite dense and concentrated, though I wouldn't call it over-extracted. What I would call it is youthfully exuberant, but with tertiary qualities developing. Very noticeable notes of forest floor, leather, tobacco and spice. I didn't pick up any chocolate this time around, but perhaps a tad of green pepper. The wine also continues to demonstrate a somewhat gamey style. In all, this is a very sexy, youthful, complex and powerful wine, with still, and surprisingly, somewhat gritty tannins. The finish is elegant and a notable 2 minutes long. Delicious wine that is showing fabulously, with a very wonderful style, class and freshness. I'm so pleased to have a few more bottles in the cellar, and they've got at least another 10 years of a very good life ahead. Such a treat!

Drank this Merlot last week. Notes from memory. Very dark, purplish in color. Nose of black cherries, plums, coffee beans and leather. Full bodied, on the lush/rich side. Fruit-forward at this point, as the wine is clearly very young. There's black cherries, blackberries and plums, along with notes of coffee, earth, spice and herbs. Long, lingering finish. Very sexy wine. I'd like to try this wine with a few more years of bottle age in the future.

Drank at Copake last week. Shocked how well this wine has held up. Obviously showing signs of its age, but youthful aromas of cherries, spice and herbs. Same notes on the palate, along with some remaining oak and vibrant acidity. Lots of sediment here, so worth decanting for that reason alone. Hoping I still have another one of these lying around.

I bought it long ago &, honestly, had forgotten what a top-notch selection it was. I just grabbed it from the wine fridge with some family at the vacay house (that's in Copake, btw) for dinner and only then realized what I had in my glass. (not the sort of wine-related thing that happens to me very often; I'm usually much more aware). Anyway, great bottle which I prob shld've scored higher than 92. As for Copake--which is less than an hour SE of Albany, NY, I guess those who know me would very likely say it is indeed a stellar wine haven (privately held, of course) that's worth the visit, lol. Long way from BC tho...Cheers!

Hints of vanilla on the nose, ginger, toast, hazelnuts. Peach, apricot and ginger on the palate, spices. Green apple notes, wet stones. This is evolving, the oak less pronounced, but this is still a smooth operator with a lot of cellar intervention. Could mistake this for a Chardonnay if tasted blind. Really well made wine, but in terms of style - perhaps a bit too manipulated for my taste.

Drank from magnum at Carbone a few nites ago. Notes from memory: Group Vegas dinner and wouldn't you know it one of our crowd bumps into an old pal, who happens to be Ed Sheeran, and he treated us to this lovely.
Brief decant, unfortunately. There's black cherries and plums here in good amount. Also, lots of spice. Lovely, silky long finish. This is a bit, yet elegant, meaty, sexy wine that, while still quite young, is showing very nicely at present. I'd not touch this wine again for at least 5 years, but quite delicious right now.

A 'come to daddy!' wine - or certainly in that place now. We have finally arrived to the beginning of where I hoped this would go. Elegantly rich with lemon curd, turkish delight, and pain au raisin, with flashes of baked nuts. It's lost some of that youthful purity, but remains focused and explodes with intensity that then gradually expands but never gets too big for its britches. A mousse to die for. The smell in the glass was going for another day after having finished this. The food pairings are many, but we happily had this with a big bowl full of marcona almonds, which calorically is probably a meal.

Drank at Champetre Friday nite, decanted at the table. As always with this lovely Margaux, a very enjoyable bottle and my notes are consistent. Lovely, fragrant nose of red berries and and tobacco. On the palate, very elegant with soft, mostly resolved tannins and a velvety feel on the palate. Fruit continues to slowly fade, and tertiary elements becoming more prominent--cigar box, earth, tobacco, eucalyptus--making for a complex, nicely balanced wine with classic bordeaux elements. Still drinking well, but time to finish this up as it's peaked and might be starting a slow decline.

Unfortunately, it's been 'discovered' which has led to substantial price increases over the year. I am still drinking it tho. Last bottle from release, all have been pleasurable, this one no exception. 65% Merlot, 25% CS, 10% CF. Still dark and youthful looking...wonderful softness of silk...a wine of subtlety and med bodied...dark berry plum, bing cherry, currant fruits...little barnyard, tobacco, earth tones...silky tannin, old leather, cherry/clove spice...very appealing dusty dry graphite and pencil lead. Again, drinks so soft and mellow, yet has a wonderful balance and classic Bordeaux-ness to it...a huge success given it's price point!

Drank blind last nite with the Xtremos. Most guessed this as pinot, but no one saw it as German. Pinkish/brownish in color. Upon opening, some brett aromas, along with harsh/bitter finish on the palate. (only a few of the bottles evinced this particular flaw). However, the wine changed dramatically in the glass, nose changed to tart red cherries, and the palate softened as well. High acid wine made it apparent it was an old world, northern clime wine--tho it tasted a bit too hot (14.1% will do that). Some minerality, slightly viscous, lots of tart red fruit. Fairly long finish. I, like many at this tasting, enjoyed this very interesting wine.

Bottle of 2010 Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona Brunello di Montalcino, Italy (Sangiovese, 14.5%, 30 months in barrels). Dark purple with a light brown trim on the eye…nice. Powerful, yet warm, minty, cinnamony, herbally nose…perfume reminiscent of a upper middle class fragrance boutique. Ripe, slightly bitter black fruits on the palate, full-bodied, dirty tannins with a lot going on from start to long finish…I am not sure what, but I fear I sipped this drop too late 😢

Dana supplied for Xtremo CKH wine dinner last nite. Decanted at table. Deep ruby color, no signs of age whatsoever. Exuberant nose of black fruit, leather, mocha and coffee. Rich and structured, with excellent concentration as well as integration of wine elements. There's gobs of black fruit here, along with leather, forest floor, tobacco notes and spice. Powerful, yet elegant and graceful, and quite complex, the wine is showing wonderfully right now and IMO will only continue to improve with time in the bottle. Solid acidic core that gives this wine its backbone and clearly the wine, youthful as it is, is tannic, but they are quite soft, & not at all grippy. Exceedingly long, deliciously elegant and silky smooth finish. Coincidentally, we tasted 2 right bank 2005s with this--Monbousquet and Conseillante and, surprisingly, both were far more closed and tannic than the Cos, and much less approachable. This was my first experience with a serious 05 and I came away quite impressed with this wine and vintage. If this is what the other top wines of the vintage will be like, I'll be very happy that I bought many of them all those years ago- and my patience with them will have paid off. Loved it, and was clearly my WOTN.

Drank over the past few days at Copake. Nose of orange peel and apricots. Darker in color than I expected of this bottle. Wonderful freshness, and bright acidity up front. Molasses, orange marmalade and apricot fruit are prominent. Also notes of creme brulee, mango and honey. I got a taste of burnt fruit as the wine opened up over time, and I did not find the wine to be overly sweet; more bittersweet actually. Perfect acidity level, great concentration, not particularly unctuous and certainly not cloying. Really tasty sweetie! My contribution to our Xtremo blind tasting Tuesday nite. Color is very pale, straw-like, almost clear. Reticent nose at first, tho became quite generous over time in the glass, exuding aromas of white peaches, melon & lemons. Medium body--much bigger bodied than the usual Muscadet, likely due to this being a Cru-level wine), some creaminess and, as per some of my fellow tasters, a bit oily and unctuous. To me, the overriding characteristic of this wine was it's minerality, along with its lovely fruit aromas and notes. None of the tasters correctly ID'd this wine, with most thinking it to be a white Burg or Chablis. Clearly, this is NOT your typical Muscadet. Lovely wine overall, and one I'll gladly taste again.

Nose exuded aromas of black fruit, herbs and leather. Lots of fruit and excellent complexity on the palate. This is a powerful, muscular, sexy wine that IMO is in a great place right now (whoever might think this wine past it's prime is nutso!). There's spice, leather, black cherries and some earth, along with solid acidity. Tannins are hardly noticeable, and well-integrated. Wonderfully long and luxurious finish. Loved this wine!

Popped and poured at Kittle House for mom's day. Lots of tobacco and herbal notes on the nose. Medium body, fairly silky on the palate, some red fruit notes, along with coffee, licorice and tobacco. On the plummy side as well. There's still fruit here but not as plentiful as I recall, and the wine now has assumed more of a tertiary style. I've had this wine in the past on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed it, but this was not its best showing.
