Burst of mushrooms and damp forest on the nose but still plenty of tart fruit on the palette. This has a few years to go.

An amazing wine. Decanted for an hour and drank with a mushroom risotto. Great bouquet of leather with floral notes. A bit of fruit, earth, integrated tannins on the front palette with a hint of spice on the back. This wine will not get better! It is drinking perfectly right now.

9/23/2013 9:13:00 AM - That would be amazing. I haven't had any old Riojas. This 2001 was fantastic, I will attempt to lay one down for a bit. Thanks for the info!

A very nice bottle, though still quite young, it's drinking very well right now. There are aromas of blackberry, cigar box, licorice, cedar, earth and hints of barnyard and crushed stone. Very good nose. Although palate is a bit tight, it exhibits creamy texture with notes of tobacco and red cherry, mid-palate is a bit thin. Not as tannic as originally thought, round and polished, though the finish does carry a sense of heat and bitterness. The wine is at a good place right now, yet can develop further with some more time in the cellar.

8/20/2013 8:29:00 AM - I am very grateful for your review! I have a magnum of this wine and was considering opening it at a dinner next week, but in retrospect, I think I will wait a few years... Did you pair it with a meal?

Classic left bank, earth and fruit on the nose, integrated tannins, and lots of fruit on the palette. This wine is ready but will last!

6/13/2013 10:52:00 AM - I've drank three bottles of it over the past 5 years and loved it each time... Of course, as with any wine, it might have been the food, company, or the venue that added the right spice, but still, I enjoyed it immensely.
