Fresh , crushed ants on opening after a 1 hour decant.
Still very acidic but nice typical house lightness to the product.

Pale yellow. Nose of fresh oregano, citrus. Mouth needed time to open. Decant 2+ hours. Taste opened to pear, fresh herbs ( but not green like pepper). Very good but let it age a few years.

Drank this wine at Kam Boat Teochew Restaurant over a wine dinner last night. Theme of the evening: wines that start with the letter M.

Brooding purple in colour. Perfumed nose that lifted spirits and heightened alerts very much raised the expectations of this wine. Very mature at this stage, with the key elements well integrated and rowing in harmony. Wine moved slowed with a good tempo; no hurry when drinking this.

A gorgeous and gracious wine.

Deep garnet. Nose a touch alcoholic, coffee, black fruits. Taste moderate, shorter finish, coffee, hint of tobacco. Overall OK, not worth the entry cost.

Garnet. Nose tertiary, dried herbs. Taste touch acidic, but rest of components smooth. Drink

2/8/2022 5:30:00 PM - P718-I have been collecting since in 1970s (you do the math!) I was an early follower of Parker, and he generally agreed with my palate, esp with Bordeaux. When I downsized houses, I had a handyman cellar built. Be careful, this is a disease! Where in Jersey? Southern here.

Deep garnet. Nose was smooth, rich, plums. Taste was smooth, less overt fruits than expected. Delish but no way 100 points.

11/12/2021 7:31:00 PM - Nothing. This wine was what was in the glass. More fruit/sweetness/longer finish I guess.

1997 Phelps Insignia en Magnum. Deep garnet. Rich nose of plums, tobacco, clove. Taste was mouth filling and long lasting. A major yum for a Cal cab. I rate 97, RMP gives it 100. Tasted at BWE DC convention 2021

10/9/2021 3:55:00 PM - If you like Cal cabs, this was near the top. Some previous posts on this criticized it, but this magnum was singing.

garnet. Nose was shy, initially not giving much, with swirling and airing some licorice, lead pencil. Taste had some acid, black fruits. Clearly in a closed phase, let it rest 3-5 years.

  • Comment posted by Harry Cantrell:

2/18/2016 4:19:00 PM - Boy, do I disagree with your comment. If you had argued that there was bottle variation I may have hedged, but over 35+ years of wine tasting I have encountered closed "dumb" phase in many areas' wines and many bottles. Given what I tasted from this bottle in the past, I stand by my review.

Pale yellow. Very Sauvignon blanc in nature, only with aging/airing does the Semillon come out. Nose of vanilla, orange peel, cream, citrus. Mouth was smooth, medium weight, lip smacking.

  • Comment posted by Harry Cantrell:

11/19/2015 5:56:00 PM - Yes, let it age. I brought this to a dinner featuring Sauvignon blanc wines. More ponderous than the standard S.B.s But clearly a ways to go.

Dark brown. Nose of molasses, honey, lemon rind. Taste mouth coating-literally!-richest of the rich, very sweet, very long lasting. Whaps you upside the head with a 2x4, subtlety be damned.

  • Comment posted by Harry Cantrell:

Pale gold. Very fine bubbles. Nose was acidic, citric. Taste was the same. Seems very young-let age a few years at least. But still good.

  • Comment posted by Harry Cantrell:

1/24/2013 2:09:00 PM - 1996 was a high acid vintage and a lot of the higher end Champagne will age a long time. Try the 96 Veuve Clicquot which outshone the 96 Dom at this tasting/Dinner.

  • Comment posted by Harry Cantrell:

1/24/2013 3:58:00 PM - Not the LGD, rather the VC Brut. Delish
