1/2/2021 9:22:00 PM - Hi Srh! I did not decant this. Considered it, but tasted it thought it was great as is. The food pairing was very simple homemade raviolis (as made by my mother and grandmother) with meatballs and marinara sauce. The wine was also very good with some after dinner dark chocolate. This was my last bottle of the 2010. Wish I had more! 😍🍷

Slightly hazy Medium gold color
Delicate pearlage
Bottle had minor eruption upon opening

Clean, fully developed, medium aroma intensity
Aromas of blossom, jasmine flowers, nectarine, cranberry, toast, bread, dough, flint

Dry, creamy mousse, medium + acidity, medium body, medium alcohol, medium flavor intensity, medium + finish. Flavors of nectarine, cranberry, bread, dough, toast.

Very good overall quality.
Drink now not suitable for aging.

Enjoyable bottle is sparking wine.
But I’ve had much better at same/lower prices.
Bubbles dissipated quickly — not as prominent even upon opening.

The big fruit of the Southing with the minerality and dirt of the Ten. My favorite Sea Smoke in years. Yummy.

Popped and poured and served blind. Nose of dark red fruits, cranberry, violets, crushed rocks. Almost had a semi-carbonic type of thing going on. Very pure red and black fruit flavors on the palate with floral undertones. Good acidity and smooth mouthfeel. Not overly complex at the moment and certainly more fruit than savory, but a well made wine for sure and one that I think will gain complexity over time.

A little disappointed with this one. I rated it 88 points, which I think is generous. Not much on the nose, not as complex as I would have expected. Wondering if I should have decanted it. Will revisit the wine tomorrow and update these notes if appropriate. First time I have been disappointed with a W-S pinot,

11/7/2017 6:59:00 AM - Yes, I agree. It did open up a bit over the course of the evening. So, I expect decanting would have been very helpful.

11/7/2017 6:24:00 PM - Day 2 Update. I decanted for about 1-1.5 hours. Definitely opened up a little more and I enjoyed it more. Had it with an Ottolenghi (google it - you'll be glad you did!) recipe for chicken with middle eastern spices and preserved lemon and it was a good pairing. Not at all a fruit forward wine, but complex and enough red fruit on the front of the palate to balance the spices. If I had another bottle of this one, I wold hold it for a couple more years. Upgrading my initial score to 94.

This was the wine I took home from the tasting room after tasting through a wide range of eclectic wines from KV. In the glass at home, it did not disappoint. Translucent ruby in appearance (similar to a darker pinot noir), with an intriguing nose of strawberries, cherries and toasted nuts. Oddly, the wine had no strong impression of oak on the nose, yet it was very oaky on the back-palate (which I didn't mind). It tastes nothing like cabernet sauvignon but more like...I dunno...a cross between pinot noir and a peppery zinfandel(?). I'd buy it again for its uniqueness. Not a bad value either.

5/10/2017 6:27:00 PM - Completely agree with your description - can't improve on it at all! :-) The only difference (2 years after your review) I can discern is on the nose not much fruit, mainly toasted nuts. Very interesting wine!

Serious and hedonistic effort, lots of grapefruit and lime, kumquat. High acid and minerality. Mouth filling flavor and lush texture. Amazing food wine as well, only takes it to a higher level. Buy this if you get a chance.
