Elegant nose -- jasmine/white flower. This is a delicate wine. What it lacks is more punch in the mid and late palate. Originially tasted iside-by-side with the Oakridge Henk Vineyard Chardonnay, and it was flimsy in comparison. When tasted in isolation a different day, however, it was able to show its merits. Paired really nicely with spicy Chinese beef noodle soup.

Pale ruby, nose of strawberry, raspberry, smoke, toast, redcurrant & wet leaves. Medium body, strong acidity & medium grippy but fairly ripe tannins. To taste strawberry, raspberry, redcurrant, wet leaves, smoke, toast & cedar. Long & lingering finish. Very good. Lovely balance & flavour intensity. Delicious now but will benefit from some more cellar time in my view.

I had this at Christmas and didn't take a TN although your note seems bang on. I would probably add that over the first hour it seemed v v youthful (I served PnP) but it seemed to find it's feet. I might wait a couple of years before my next one.

Second bottle. As soon as cork is removed, once again I can see all kinds of detritus in the neck of the bottle, as if the wine has been eating and disintegrating the cork, which is all the more shocking on such a young wine. I had to decant this again as sediment everywhere, and crystals forming on the cork. I do wonder whether we would see such visible debris if it was instead stoppered with a natural cork or a Diam, although I would welcome the comments of anyone better informed. I do wonder if anyone else has to decant off visible debris?

Aside from that, it was very pure, crystalline, with a lovely texture and very decent (see my earlier CT note for more descriptors).

Not sure why some here have noted that Jim Marresh is trying to replicate Burgundy as Oregon can stand on its own two feet.

12/20/2023 7:49:00 AM - Thanks v much for your comment. Really interesting. Mine are imported from A&B in the UK and came naked (no foils) and with a cheap looking composite cork. I don't expect to pull another bottle from storage any time soon so hoping someone in the UK can pop one in the interests of science... Also speculate that ours may have been bottled earlier than yours... Never had such issues before (except on a more minor scale - crystals forming around the cork on all of my 2016 Voerzio Langhe Nebs - but free from visible debris).

Golden yellow. Sunflowers butterscotch and hint of vanilla on the nose. Quite full bodied, goregeous buttery mouthfeel, saline, very dry yet there is bright yellow fruit in an unfruity way. Good length on the finish and v moreish. 13.5% and sealed with Diam 10. Impressive.

Decanted at an Argentinian steak restaurant. Initial whiff of cardboard - is this corked? Once poured into glassware the cork taint was not obvious. The wine seemed quite well resolved showing notes of old bookcases, leather and sour cherry. The three other table guests seemed to enjoy it although I thought the midpalate was slightly clipped and overall perhaps the wine was ever so slightly corked. Still enjoyable and of course I did not share my opinion amongst "muggle" fellow diners. Would like to try another bottle to see. By way of reference, I have had quite a lot of the 2010 and recent bottles of that seemed fresher than the 2013, so until proven otherwise, I suspect ever so slightly faulty / non-pristine - but until I have had other examples I am not certain enough to tick it as flawed or defective.

Getting towards crimson red in colour yet translucent. Nose showed wild strawberries, pomegranate, sour cherry and suggestion of pot pourri. Tannins still need time to soften as there is considerable structure yet still a pleasure to drink now as the fruit was very succulent and juicy and enough to overcome the structure, and overall there was good balance. Not the most finely chiseled 2016 yet I have confidence in its potential and will be interesting to follow into its secondary evolution, although plenty of patience will be required. At the moment R Molino's straight Barolo is more expressive. 92++

With the benefit of hindsight, it probably would have benefitted from a decant in advance...

Cassis and spice on the nose. Full bodied with quite firm yet regal tannins, tons of midpalate fruit and a little spice. Good freshness despite its youth. Leave well alone, for my palate it needs at least 15 years+. From a bottle decanted and followed over dinner in a domestic setting.

It's in a very nice spot so if you have a bottle, it wouldn't be a mistake to open it, but likely it will still be great in 10 or 20 years (but just at different stages in its evolution). Please note that there will likely be other CT notes on this bottle from others present at the same dinner, so will be interested to see what they say.

Peter's 40th (67 Pall Mall, London): Colour was light yellow with more of a green tinge to it than the Dauvissat enjoyed alongside it. Initially the nose showed reduction and it was difficult to enjoy with underlying white and yellow fruits. I left the glass alone for 30 mins + and the wine really transformed, and better still after 1 hour / 1 hour 30 mins plus. Medium to full bodied, not particularly fruity, more minerally, yet there is power and concentration and mouth watering salinity and a never ending finish. The first PYCM that I have truly loved rather than admired or respected. From Zalto Montrachet.

Melvin's La Trompette Lunch (La Trompette, Chiswick, London): Crimson with some slight bricking around the edge. Gentle red fruited nose, fine tannins, medium bodied with concentrated red berries remaining savoury and with fresh acidity. If this was tasted blind I am not sure it would jump out as an Hermitage, lovely though it is. Lots of praise around the table given the pedigree of the producer although I am not quite sure what all the fuss is about on the basis of this bottle... First bottle from a case of 12 bought and cellared on release courtesy of a generous fellow diner. Unconvinced that this will benefit from further cellaring.

Slightly darker than ruby red in colour. Easy to get lost in the intoxicating nose where there are rose petals, dried flowers and some violets. Shows very well on the palate with pomegranates and red fruits and has such a graceful mouthfeel with very fine boned tannins that almost completely conceal the serious structure lurking underneath. Impression is of a very clean, precise and chiselled wine showing great purity of fruit. 14.5% ABV from Zalto Burgundy glass. 94++

This is an ethereal C9dP translucent in colour showcasing freshness and purity over power and concentration. Aromas since trying this EP have been captivating, and they remain so, with raspberries and a background hint of water evaporating on hot stones. On the palate this wine has silky tannins and continues to show purity and freshness with the same wild raspberries dominating although perhaps a little thin on the mid-palette. It remains a light and PN-esque C9dP consistent with the vintage. 14.5% ABV & Certified Organic. Served cellar cool from Conterno Sensory.

Second encounter with this Champagne. Not particularly expressive or fruity on the nose. There is fruit and zappy acids and some complexity on the palate. Even though the Comtes did not really do anything wrong, I struggled to find pleasure or a meaning to this wine. Score given reflects that it is proficient and well made, and who knows, maybe this will be far better with additional bottle age?

This was decanted at 3pm and drunk from 7pm and suffice it to say is an absolutely huge wine. Hard to really pick out the fruit - although dense red fruit it is - think succulent cherries. The tannins were very silky and polished although not overly oaky. In short everything seems to be there, but at present there is no subtlety. Scored as tasted today yet I harbour high hopes in 10 years+++.

This was unintentionally decanted just before serving (rather than several hours ahead) and initially came over as muted, extremely young, very fresh and showing red fruits and perhaps a little disappointing compared with the 2012 I've enjoyed recently. However As the evening progressed this wine found its feet, the nose transformed to show the intoxicating elixir of simply gorgoeus red fruits (think wild raspberries etc) but with deep concentration yet remaining fresh with fine tannins and well judged acidity. Most certainly not too soon to drink now and may well improve as not yet really into a tertiary stride. Despite being hard to pick out as a Pauillac this remained classical and very well balanced. My WOTN because of the lingering memory of the deeply concentrated delicious fruit.

Absolute infanticide to open this now, however curiosity and "science" got the better of me. Day 1 - confused unbalanced, heavy oak nose, struggling to delineate flavours, disjoined (knees and elbows!) - not very pleasant. Day 2 - heavy oak nose is gone as it is muted, still seems unfocused on the mid palette - okay. Day 3 - nose remains fairly muted, on the palette much better delineation and clarity. Refreshing lemony citrus fruit, very pure and clean yet nicely restrained. Lovely lasting finish. Ideally best from 2035 when it would likely merit a far higher score.
