Really firing on all cylinders after 30mins of air and 30mins in the bottle. Black fruits, star anise, pyrazine, minerals then a pretty full bodied palate with great acid and a touch of fine tannin on the finish. Very well made wine and much better than I was expecting given some reviews. Might have mistaken this for left bank bdx if not for a bit of ripeness and heaviness on the palate.

3/15/2023 3:49:00 PM - Tried another bottle. Less alive than I remember. Definitely past peak although still drinkable and meh QPR. Similar aromatics to last note but structure and fruit intensity was fading. Drink now or maybe look elsewhere at $60 price point. 90pts today

Very surprised here. Giving this the same rating as Dom 2010, but for different reasons. While the Dom was elegant, effervescent, balanced, this was enjoyable in a different way. If Dom was the velvet glove, this is the iron fist. It had a medium body with a very assertive mouthfeel and huge toasted brioche notes. Some tree fruit flavors underneath. Acid and bubbles could have been a but higher, but this was very enjoyable and was great QPR at $40. Will probably go for this when I'm looking for affordable NV bubbles.

2/26/2023 7:08:00 PM - Have tasted this twice in the time since this review, probably more like an 89 pt wine and definitely not in the same class as dom. Has some good bread and citrus notes but the palate is lacking in bubbles and acidity and the finish falls apart with air.

Pnp. On the nose, cranberry, loganberry, oak, some VA. On the palate, high acid, medium - body, very little fruit, watery, short finish. Not satisfied here. Have found much better cru beaujolais for ~$25.

8/7/2022 5:04:00 PM - Update: after some air time the structure rounded out and became more balanced. Still very little fruit on the palate. Developed a little stony minerality. Maybe would go up to 86-87.

1 hour decant. Medium ruby. On the nose, vanilla, baking spice, red cherry, strawberry, faint floral characteristic, faint vegetable notes that blew off. On the palate, medium bodied, high acid and medium tannin good depth of fruit on the midpalate and a decent balance. Finish is a bit stringent and acidic, but will give this time to develop. Have actually had this before and gave it a 91 but im more in the 88-89 range right now.

6/19/2022 4:59:00 PM - Update 1 hour later: palate is really opening up, dense black fruits and dark chocolate really pack a punch. The finish remains a bit acetone-y which is the only negative here. I probably would go up on my rating to 90-91.

Disappointing. Deep ruby. Blackberry bramble, cassis, dark chocolate, baking spice, green pepper, maybe some cinnamon. Lots of oak but thats ok. On the palate, rather full body, medium - acid/tannin, dark purple fruits, oak, menthol on the smooth midpalate. What ruins it for me here is the finish. Volatile, hot, alcoholic. Ruins the whole palate here. Even without such an off-putting finish, this is not a $100 wine, but might be drinkable, but this finish makes this wine hard to sip. Makes me want to dump my 2nd bottle.

6/7/2022 1:46:00 PM - Day 14?!?! (Keep it in a 4oz bottle no headspace, airtight. Refrigerated) Kept very well. Still has great acid tannin, perhaps the fruit has faded a tad. Whats great is the alcohol has faded a bit too. Now this is much more drinkable and I feel like I can only detect the alcohol because I'm looking for it. Gingerbread, sweet dark fruits on the nose. Great balance and structure on the palate. More like an 88-89 now. I do like this, perhaps it needs either more air or more bottle aging but I did decant 1-2hrs originally so we are talking much more than that.
