2021 Caterwaul Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valleymore |
1/17/2024 - BottleScholar Does not like this wine: NRArtificial-confected grape, like grape-flavored children's medicine, and some woody herb. Simple--not getting much complexity. Maybe need to give it more time in the cellar, or in the glass, but would not anticipate any substantial changes. M intensity. M+ concentration. M finish, or less. QPR is very low. Doesn't seem to fall within a quality style category. Honestly, I'm questioning whether to take future suggestions from the salesperson who recommended this wine.

2019 Liquid Farm Chardonnay Golden SlopeSta. Rita Hills more |
9/9/2023 - BottleScholar Likes this wine: NRUnctuous, yet dry with acid. Carmel apple with burnt (in a good way) sugar, brown butter, vanilla, pineapple, green papaya, cheese rind, and dried leaves. Tartness of the green apple, "sweetness" of the caramel, and slight pleasant bitterness of the burnt sugar (oak), and earthiness and added complexity of cheese rind (from lees) and the dried leaves. It's a "California-style" Chardonnay, and well-made with complexity. Mix this one in with a blind tasting of white Burgundies to see what your unsuspecting guests have to say. M+/P intensity. M+ body. M+ acid. M/M+ finish. Some pleasant texture on the finish hints at the possibility of a little tartaric acid used in winemaking, which is common.

2019 Vietti Langhe Nebbiolo PerbaccoLanghe DOC more |
12/12/2022 - BottleScholar Likes this wine: 85 pointsSolid and enjoyable if not especially complex. I prefer some other Langhe Nebbiolos that have less ripe fruit and are more Barolo-like at the lower price point. I would still enjoy having this wine again.

4/28/2023 - BottleScholar Likes this wine: 95 pointsPale-Medium Gold color with an apricot tint. Aromatic nose of blackberry blossoms and seasoned (almond) hardwood. Fine mousse. Spicy ginger, yellow apple, blackberry blossom, lemon, lemon curd, pastry crust, Greek yogurt, dried leaves, and dried hardwood. High acid gives a lively texture. Much more complex and dynamic than the average Champagne.

2016 Pala Bovale EssentijaIsola dei Nuraghi IGT more |
9/10/2022 - BottleScholar Likes this wine: 86 points100% Bovale from 80 - 130-year-old Sardinian vines. Initial impression of smoke and wood char with savory wild blackberries and their stems, then scrub brush, potting soil, and some balsamic vinegar, and a hint of previously-extinguished cigar appear. Medium-plus body overall. Medium weight polished mouthfeel. Medium-plus tannins with a fine-grained texture. Medium / M+ acid.

10/12/2022 - BottleScholar Likes this wine: 94 pointsThe epitome of dark rich smoky luxury. Lit cigar, charred cedar, vanilla, dark ripe savory concentrated blackberry, and thyme predominate, along with dried rose petal, black licorice, black plum, black olive, dill, and coconut. Medium-plus tannins that have softened into a velvety texture. Medium-plus acid. Full body. Pronounced intensity and complexity. Long finish. Deep inky ruby with purple highlights.
