My case arrived, but am hesitant to crack one given the varying opinions to-date. To satisfy my curiosity (I've been racking my brain), anyone care to venture a guess about the winery-behind-the-label? They claim a cult Oakville winery with prices starting at $500/btl. Could this possibly be BOND?

9/2/2020 9:57:00 AM - Mine coming today - I see the other post also - don't think it's Harlan Estate - but could be Promontory. The "ad" said prices starting at $500 and rising. And Harlan Estate The Maiden is regularly $250ish. So far I've only found Screaming Eagle that fits that criteria. Bond also has wines at $200ish. Promontory was another maybe but I read they use neutral Austrian oak casks because the French oak was too much for the fruit.
I've read that SE sells off a lot of fruit/juice. I think that's what happened here. 2018 was just a huge crop so they had lots leftover. And wineries were already not buying juice because there is so much stock.
Also the "ad" mentioned several hundred point scores in the last 5 vintages and SE has 2015 100pts by Parker, JD and JS, 2016 by Parker and JS, and 2013 by JS.

9/2/2020 10:13:00 AM - well, it could also be that the "ad" is not "entirely true" or be written in such a way as to make it confusing.... Who knows!! LOL!

9/2/2020 12:41:00 PM - reading more about Promontory I think it's likely it - they use French oak for 9-12 months then blend and transfer to Stockinger casks. They don't release until a couple of years later. So if 2018 was a bumber crop and then they made their final blend - this could be the leftover - as it's only seeing French oak.

Drank from a split with dinner. No formal notes or score, but this was good as always. Rich, lush, dark fruits, with all the typical scents. Really in a great spot now. Very good deal to get these for $26 each.
