Woke up after an hour of air, even better a day later. Black cherry, red cherry, black raspberry, plum, damp forest, earth, smoke, and a little graphite on the nose. Tart cherry, red cherry, plum, and earth on the palate. Tart, juicy acidity, grippy tannins, med-long finish. Overall, this wine was lovely. Although I didn't drink this with a meal, it really calls for one.

This bottle was pretty advanced. It was stored at someone else's place under unknown conditions though. I opened a 2011 right after that was drinking great.

Broken cork, heavily bricked. I was expecting this wine to be kind of dead, but I was surprised at how well this showed. Black cherry, red cherry, a little kirsch, earth, raspberry, and a hint of cedar on the nose. Black cherry, plum, raspberry, tart cherry, earth, a little bit of aged barrel on the palate. Good acidity, integrated tannins, medium-long finish. None of the heat I experienced in the past was noticeable. Really nice drinking bottle.

Been in my wine cellar for years. First glass through coravin. Still quite cold. While the color was decent, the wine was thin, closed down with virtually no nose. The nose and flavors hinted however hinted at something better to come. After being open all night this inexpensive pinot from a rock star vintage came to life! Nice nose of red fruit with cherries and a hint of strawberry coming through while the medium bodied pinot had a nice flavor of cherry - not dark cherries mind you... Also, strawberry notes were there, too. Not a complex pinot, but one I enjoyed drinking. This is however, beyond it's peak maturity. While still with life, if you have any - drink up this year.

In a good spot right now. Integrated and showing some of that perfumed quality that aged Pinot gets. Best either right out of the bottle or a day later - this wine got a bit muddled after a few hours of air, then clarified again the next day (maybe it was my palate that was off, who knows).

Consistent with my previous note. Drinking well but will hold or improve for several more years I’m sure - rich, but has just enough structure. For now give this a decent. Pleasing if you want to drink a richer Pinot, and a good QPR.

Black raspberries, black cherries, lilies, earth, violets, cocoa powder, and smoke on the nose. Black and red cherries, cranberry, earth, plums, and cherry pit on the palate. Tart acidity, integrated tannins, medium-long finish. Nice bottle. Complex, interesting, tasty. This is very easy to drink.

Funky aromas on opening. After an hour settled down. Well integrated, forward tannins, medium bodied, delicious red fruits, cherries, earth, robust. Fruit flavors still present forward, bright flavors but definitely maturing. Medium finish.

A little sweeter than the 2012 bottles, but still really smooth and tasty. Great value for a really nice Oregon Pinot.

Quickly dying, much lighter body and flavors than last year. Still a decent sipper or party wine, but time to drink up.

Figured I'd update this and give it a score. With plenty of air, this is a very good wine. Slightly mushroomy and herbal nose, medium bodied and moderate intensity on the palate, nice long finish that rides the line between rich (for a 2013 Willamette Pinot) and refined. Solid acid to back everything up.

This is a very well made wine that would probably appeal to those who like a slightly richer Pinot (in which case this will still seem light) and those who enjoy more lithe, Burgundian examples. A delight to drink by itself or with food: I've had this with roasted chicken and root vegetables one night and with a salad another night.

Drinking very well now, but given the vintage and the fact that air treated this so well, it might continue to improve with further bottle age.

One of the richest Oregon Pinots I've had. Nearly 15% ABV, and it runs a little hot. Surely the vintage is a big part of this, but this tastes fundamentally different than the 2013 Dijon bloc from Whistling Dog, which I really enjoy and find to be a fantastic value. In contrast this is substantially more jammy and rich, showing more concentrated black fruit and less acidity. That's typical for 2012, but I feel like the difference here is greater than normal. I'd love to taste the Dijon and heritage blocs from the same vintage to compare, as I think the clone must be responsible for some of the huge difference between these two Whistling Dog wines that I've had.

Overall though, if you enjoy a rich Pinot noir, this is well made and a good value.

UPDATE: This has been in my fridge for several days now, vac-sealed. This tends to result in a slow oxidation that not all wines survive. But this wine continued to develop over the week. It tastes less jammy and the alcohol is a bit less present. It substantially increased my appraisal of this wine. I think this would do well in the cellar for a couple more years, though it still doesn't have the acid for long term aging. It's drinking well now with tons of air - give this at least a few hours in a decanter, or even overnight.

No detailed notes, but tasty. Lively medium-bodied wine that goes way beyond the simple fruity juice you expect from a domestic Pinot at this price point. Snappy and good with food. Really a fantastic value, and I'll be buying more.

Light red color, light to medium body and flavors. Bright cherries, spices, light tannins, a bit of earth. For the price ($14) this is great QPR. Excellent wine for afternoons, parties, lunches. I suspect will be even better with more time.

Starts a bit unfocused, but after 30 minutes of air, pulls together tremendously. Black cherry, plum, forest floor, earth, cocoa powder, smoke, and a little iris or iodine on the nose. Black cherry, tart cherry, spice, earth, a little vanilla, and raspberry on the palate. Very good acidity, fine tannins, decent finish. Super young, this starts a little restrained for a 2012 and then gets bigger with air. Definitely a dark fruited powerful wine. Better the next day.

Very good stuff. I felt that it only revealed itself with at least three hours of air. It kept revealing darker and more secondary characteristics with time. Unassailable QPR

Good sense of Oregon terroir on the nose, offering black cherries, churned earth and truffle with a citrus note of orange rind and a melange of baking spices. These notes and more on the palate, adding a bit of cola and cocoa powder with more sips. The wine is balanced and fairly ripe for the vintage at 13.7% alc. Excellent QPR and unbelievable steal at $15.

A very impressive improvement over what I tasted in the 2009 offering of this wine. This one has a seamless streak of concentrated, juicy fruit from lips to finish. The nose has brooding, almost stewed like dark fruit aroma. The fruit on the palate ranges from mulled to candied cherry, blueberry, plum and red raspberry. Lively, good solid mouth feel. Nicely balanced and integrated tannins, oak, acid and alcohol. Really strong finish of spicy maraschino cherry.

Black raspberries, plums, raspberries, cocoa powder, earth, wet forest, a little leather, and a little smoke on the nose. Sweet red and black cherries, plums, earth, and tart cherries on the palate. Nice acidity, supple tannins, medium-long finish. This comes across a bit young, but it's very enjoyable.

Bright without being too fake or sugary. Nice high toned fruits on the nose followed by strawberries and cherries on the palate. A hint of smoke, a touch of vanilla-oak. Light to medium overall impression. Ready to drink up.

A great bottle at around $20. Tasted back in December 2014 with similar notes and score.
