2/10/2024 - ChairmanKao Likes this wine: 91 pointsABV: 12.5%. The nose displays a lot of forest floor and roasted herbs with some fruit characteristics hidden underneath this herbaceous front. On the mid-palate, there's a smooth mouthfeel with well-integrated acidity, lifting the fruit to exhibit a black cherry cola-like profile towards a lengthy and pleasant finish. This is a solid wine and with such a low ABV, it should be able to cellar for another decade. If you're planning to open your bottle soon, I'd recommend decanting it for at least an hour to "wake up" the fruit. |

8/20/2019 - PIntag wrote: 89 pointsStrong bitter note from previous bottles not noticeable with this bottle. It's been over a year since the last one, so perhaps this has resolved. In any case, an incredible value at the $12 I paid for this, as it was a restrained and elegant (but not lightweight) Syrah that accompanied a meat and potatoes dish very nicely. |

3/3/2018 - PIntag wrote: 89 pointsThis wine is hard to like at first - it's got some hard edges and seems out of balance. Still, there's some pure meaty, olive-y Syrah on display even if the acidity is not completely in balance. Still prominent bitter notes as well. There's also good depth, but this is firmly in the medium-weight category, which is good by me as I'm not crazy about really extracted version of this variety. In any case, this softened a bit overnight and became more enjoyable and I ended up liking it just fine. |

9/26/2017 - PIntag wrote: 89 pointsAgain, this was pretty rough on the pop 'n pour, with a strong bitter component and just being generally unfocused and rough tasting. After vacuvining and leaving overnight in the fridge, this transformed into a very nice restrained Syrah with nice floral aromatics and a savory, meaty palate. Mid-palate depth was not great, but it wasn't hollow either. |

9/2/2017 - PIntag wrote: 90 pointsLots to like about this. Not a big, teeth-stainer but also not weak and wimpy. Balanced, correct, new-world Syrah with some age. Not spoofed with oak or jamminess. Quite bitter at first, but this moderated with air. This will go another 5 years and could improve. |

7/28/2017 - PIntag wrote: 88 pointsWasn't sure what to expect from this 10-year old entry-level Sonoma syrah that was being offered at Wine Exchange for $12. Usually these lower-priced Cali Syrahs are slathered in cheap oak chips and taste like wood. This, however, actually had some smoky, bacon-y, savory syrah character. Pretty good balancing acidity and some depth. A bitter component on the finish detracted a bit, but overall, a good syrah at a great price. |

9/10/2015 - Mark3548 Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis was a very pleasant surprise. Big, rich taste, very complex for a reasonably priced wine. Despite its age it has more fruit and less meaty, smoky character than some Syrahs, and it works well for me. Wish I bought more than 2 bottles, as I'm kind of hoarding the second one. |

9/19/2015 - Bob Sacamano Likes this wine: 90 pointsDeep purple color and viscous. Nose not very expressive, but some faint hints of violets and lavender. Blackberry, plum on the palette. Fruit is rich, velvety and clean. Restrained acidity and silky tannin with just enough grip to keep the experience fresh. Great wine, if a bit restrained. |

9/12/2015 - Nojomoschwa Likes this wine: 89 pointsThis was a full-on though not quite OTT California Pinot that was very enjoyable with our meal while camping. Very juicy ripe red fruits with hints of baking spice (notably cinnamon), and quite an individual personality. A good deal at <$13 from Last Bottle. A lot for the money, though definitely not for people strictly in the line of IPOB or classic Burgundy, for sure. |

8/1/2015 - hsacks Likes this wine: 89 pointsLight red color. Aromas of black cherry, grape seed, violets and wood spices. Medium-bodied ripe fruit with very good depth and a silky, integrated finish. Not very complex but a delicious glass of mature Carneros Pinot for the money. |
