Xiao Dong brought this bottle to Pane e Vino. It was very closed when it was in bottle but openned up after half hour decanting. It could be drank well now.

Quite expressive as would be expected for a hot vintage and yet incredibly elegant and harmonious without any hint of raisins that many lesser wines of this vintage show. Fantastic.

Fading, but still showed better than the Mouton. HBs are almost always harmonious even in the most difficult vintage as this demonstrates.

This bottle was double-decanted for 5 hours and then thrown into a decanter for 1.5 hours at the restaurant. Layered and creamy in texture with classic HB notes of char and melted asphalt and very much on the black-fruited side in this strong, full-bodied vintage. The complexity on the finish is just developing and it remains a young wine in need of further aging. 94+

Still powerful. Strong graphite, cedar, tobacco to start. After a couple hours some more fruit showed through, but more body, grip, and concentration than the 1995 Latour we had alongside it. However, it was a bit one note at first, so maybe it needs a bit more time to show more balance.

A great example. Tonight besting the famous ‘89 because it’s much more developed. Beautiful fruit, tannins and acidity - much more fruit than smoke or hickory. It won’t get better even from perfectly stored bottles.

The maturity level of various bottles of ‘89 Haut-Brion varies a lot. This bottle, purchased near release, was one of the younger versions. Deeply saturated ruby, no orange. A little shy on the nose. Powerful core of intense cassis fruit. Long. Not very complex yet but that will surely come.

Decanted approximately 2-2.5 hours before serving. Deep garnet colour with light bricking, apparent but silky tannins, absolute powerhouse wine showing cedar, tobacco, dark fruit, kept evolving and improving in the glass. Drinking well after a long decant, but should only improve with 5+ more years. Beautiful wine (94-95)

Quite light, lots of red fruit, green pepper. It opened up after a bit and released more aromas of ripe fruit, as well as developed a nicer structure.

Big and bold. I first thought this was post-2000. Beautiful tannic structure along with your classical HB aroma profile. Olive, green pepper, slight petrol. I would like to taste this again in a few years.

A little disappointing vs. the rest. Hints of red fruit (strawberry), licorice, mint, chocolate. Very smooth in the palate, slight hint of spices. I missed the structure a bit.

As close to perfect as a wine has come to for me. We have the green pepper, wet stone, slight stable hint, chocolate, coffee. Wonderfully structured, amongst a slew of Haut-Brions it was widely agreed to be the highlight of the night.

Clearly a pairing wine. Umami, mustard, BBQ/Kimchi, ripe tomatoes. An incredibly crisp acidity. Paired nicely with the lobster tail.

NYE dinner.
A very fine bottle of HB.
A bit closed since it did not receive a proper decant.
Nose with red currant, cigar box, gravel, tobacco, leafy herbs, smoke, some meat, incense and graphite.
Very nice indeed, and with extended swirling more and more reveals.
Palate with red and black fruits, plums and currants, smoke and meaty notes.
Some soil/earth and leafy notes.
Silky and a long and very well balanced finish.
Excellent and ready to enjoy now and for at least the next 5 - 10 years.
Merry New Year Mr. Jean-Bernard Delmas where ever you are.
This one was one of the really good ones you made.
