Voluptuous sort of palate, with lowish acidity, medium finely gritty tannins, but quite a hole in the mid palate; the very definition of it: sweet fruit on the tip of the tongue, gentle astringency on the back palate and little in between. Despite the alcohol, doesn't seem too hot on the medium length finish. Crowd-pleasing full-bodied style with lots going for it, but not worth cellaring past its decade in my view. |

There's some of the red lolly character but it's not dominant. Quite an intense nose as sweet red fruit jumps out of the glass. Probably a pleasure to smell more than to drink. |

So alive at 53 years of age with solid colour still, purple core. Superb spirit, complexity to burn and a touch of rancio for interest. wow1 What a survivor. |

7/1/2023 - colinscellar Likes this wine: 91 points2023 Birthday lunch (Aquitaine Brasserie): Crumbly cork had to be pushed in but wine seemed unaffected. Still lots of lovely sweet raspberry cordial and cherry fruit. Fortified a touch too heavily, a slight chemical whiff that I think was just a bit too much alcohop potency, it's no doubt assisting in the preservation. Wine seemed like it could have gone a couple more decades if the cork would allow it. |
