Blackberry, cassis, plum, a little dried cherry, herbs, earth, and incense on the nose. Tart cherries, blackberries, plum, earth, wood, herbs, and spice on the palate. Mouthwatering acidity, lightly grippy tannins, med-long slightly oaky finish. Light-med body. Delicious. This is the way that you hope bottles like this will age. Hard to stop drinking...so I won't.

Nose is dried mulberries. Very rich mouth. Ends with chocolate and good acidity. Not complex, but actually more than just drinkable and fairly refreshing from the acidity when slightly chilled. Perfect for rare grass fed burgers.

Dark ruby with no black. Inviting smell of pomegranate, cherry, and violets. Very tasty and mouth filling, with refreshing acidity, concentrated fruit, and silky texture. The swallow highlights a brisk acidity and smooth, lightly drying tannin. Delicious, finely integrated, and aging well, that can be highly enjoyed any time in the next 5 years. Showcases how superb Pinot Noir can be from areas cooled by Pacific Ocean fogs.

Just short of opaque with an inch pour. Nice nose of plum and pomengrate. Very filling in the mouth, from being concentrated and having a fine balance of fruit, acid, and tannin. The sip adds blackberry and black cherry fruits and the swallow moves right into being dry. Overall, superbly weaves together being well structured with being rich, delicious, and fruity.

This beauty proves the ageworthiness of wines from this oft-surly vineyard. At 28years, it’s starting to shift to an orange garnet around the rim. The fruit still shows freshness - blood orange, cherry, pine bark, and some lingering round hints of oak. Lovely balance of fruit and tertiary flavors; still some tannic presence and structure. Probably at peak, but drink for another 5+ years.

Last of the 3-bottle auction lot and showed the best of the 3. As described on the back label (it says that it's a feature of the vineyard influence), this Cab shows quite a bit of cedar on the nose and palate. Really nice depth of fruit, mouthfeel, and balance. Really interesting and enjoyable. Sorry to see this gone, as I'm sure the vineyard source is now tract homes, much too valuable real estate to grow grapes (not named Napa). Crazy happy to have picked these up for < $17/btl (with 22% buyer's premium!).

The wine looks rosy colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It tastes like cherry. The body is light. The wine has narrow texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has low acidity.

This bottle showed better fruit than the first bottle of the auction lot. Not dried out at all. However, a telltale "wet cardboard" note was definitely present indicating the presence of a small amount of cork taint. Was not overwhelming, so the bottle was actually drinkable, but the TCA really distracted from the enjoyment. Shame.

14.5% abv. 1st of 3 bottles from recent auction purchase.
Initially, the nose was reductive and off-putting, but it cleared up after a half hour of slow-oxing, though it was not particularly aromatic or remarkable.
On the palate, cedar notes dominated and oak tannin was abundant - this seemed to be in a dried-out stage of its life, like most of the fruit has already faded out. Still, this wasn't terrible and was actually an enjoyable and interesting drink, and actually integrated and rounded out a bit the next evening (stoppered only). Went pretty well with grilled New York steaks.
In any case, this was well worth the $17/bottle that I paid and will drink the remaining two bottles soon. If you have any more of these, I'd drink them up soon (based on this bottle - I'll update after I pop the next one). These bottles appear well stored and the cork on this was in great shape and hardly stained at all.
If scoring this at this stage of its life, I'd say 87 - 88, but worth more for the experience of tasting a Santa Clara Valley Cabernet with 20+ years on it.

Super good score at a Safeway. Some nice cherry and red fruit on the nose, with a little bit of warmth but not too hot. Medium- acidity, soft tannins, berries on the palate.

Last bottle from a case: This was a big and flavorful New World style Pinot noir when young, now somewhat subdued but no flaws even after 30 years. In the 80s this was a small winery that took chances, sometimes making wines too big and alcoholic. I actually liked that bold style, its what this winery did best, and it was priced as a reasonable everyday drink. Now its more a brand. I kept this one bottle as a curiosity - to be honest, this was a wine best in its youth, but its still something special.
