The 2018 pours a deep purple color moving towards a magenta rim with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. There appears to be some fine sediment as well. On the nose, the wine is developing with fascinating notes of blackberries, smoked blueberry crisp, lavender, animale, bacon fat, new leather, black olives, iron-like minerals and some faint spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish lasts for an eternity and it’s laden with purple flowers, fruit and minerals. This is a thrilling Cornas with enormous energy and character. While it’s a delight to enjoy now, I expect a long life. My next bottle will be after 2028 and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to get thrills through 2038. The last glass had loads of fine sediment coating the glass; just something to keep in mind. |

11/14/2023 - Njbern Likes this wine: 92 pointsA bruiser for sure and would be cool to see what it’s like with more time. Menthol, nutmeg, olive brine, bacon, a tinge of rotting meat, funk like Jamaican rum (long pond TECA mark), 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

8/19/2023 - liber Likes this wine: 91 points4th of 12, decanted an hour, perfect cork and level, rounder and with more mid palate weight than last year's bottle, just needs a bit more nuance to develop, more attractive on night than Jasmin Cote Rotie 03, upside, 15+ years. F (17.5). |

2/13/2023 - yhn wrote: 93 pointsNo notes. Fully mature. Wonderfully expressive mature nose, good complexity. This does fade in the glass with extended time, but a fresh pour from the bottle 3 hours out was as good as the first pour. No upside to further aging, so I'll find a time for my other bottle in the near-ish term. |

1/2/2023 - James Kim Likes this wine: 91 pointsDecanted. Now 3.5h after decant. Aromas of ripe blackberries and cherries, herbs, roasted game meats, olives, and a bit of garrigue. Palate w dark black cherries, ripe blackberries, olives, brambles, roasted meats, herbs, bark and earth. Full bodied w nice acids. Medium+ tannins. Rich but balanced w some elegance. Nice balance. Young for sure but all the elements are here for a beautiful wine in 10-15 yrs. Excited to see how this turns out. 91+ |

7/23/2022 - liber Likes this wine: 90 points1st of 12, decanted an hour, perfect cork and level - dark but unusually transparent for Cornas ruby, hint of brown on rim; attractive bouquet, lavender and garrigue notes to black plum, cherry and dried herbs; fullish, ok length but slightly dilute, decent balance and freshness, less complex than nose, some upside, no rush. VGI (17). |

4/19/2021 - fournet wrote: 93 pointsStill very young. Lot of evolution over the first hour. Not jammy like many of the modern producers of late, though still more fruit than the older classics. Very nice finish, heavy tannins. I would wait another 3-5 years if possible. |

3/10/2021 - Nick4378 Likes this wine: 93 pointsTo say the nose is expressive is an understatement. Black berries, dark cherries, cassis, roasted meats. On the palate a lot of fruit up front with black berries, black cherries, currants. Followed by roasted meats, spice, olives, rocky earth & superb tannins. The stoniness is the star here. Very complex wine that is constantly evolving. Its primary, rich but balanced and is more elegant than all the bold flavors that I point out. A true sum of its parts. |

8/29/2020 - RichardP wrote: 93 pointsOn the nose, camphor and a touch of plum. On the palate, red fruit that seamlessly combines with smoked meat, a unique sweet dusty taste that I can't relate to anything else I have had, and notes of brine and earth on the long finish, with well-balanced acidity. This is excellent, and it was an excellent value at a little over $50. Although this may improve, it's already excellent. I will be looking for more. |

3/13/2020 - MDM73 Likes this wine: 91 pointsSlightly brighter, less funky, and more fruit than the previous bottle. Showing really nicely. Just classic aged old-school Syrah: dried cherry, pepper, bit of dried blood/meatiness. |

2/28/2020 - MDM73 Likes this wine: 89 pointsStill some fruit (mostly dried cherries), but this is all about the savoury: celery salt, dried meat, beef bouillon. Good acidity and beautiful colour. A little thin, but this seemed to improve over the 3 hours over which it was consumed. |

12/19/2019 - ieatprawnsss Likes this wine: 91 pointsPnP. Great nose right out of the bottle, stewed cherries and plums, roasted meats, toasty spices. Palate was fully secondary, integrated and balanced with good structure, but missing some acidity. Medium finish. Unfortunately over time it faded quite quickly, and by the 2nd hour it was regressed significantly and the mid palate gave way. Still enjoyable, but lacking the exuberance of the initial glass. Pity. |
