Not a big zin guy but it is very drinkable. Bramble and pepper, with a bit of herbaceousness, but its muscular character makes it somewhat austere and not so open to that food-oriented dimensionality. Fine for the price, but nothing special.

consistent with previous notes. Bottle aging seems to be improving the wine and there is upside potential over the next several years as the fruit subsides and the balance with structural notes improves.

Nothing terrible about it. But didn’t seem true to the varietal and seemed overly extracted. Jammy, but not in a great way. Kind of one note of plums and red fruit. Decanted for 90 minutes prior to serve.

This tasted like a $100 plus bottle All elements of bouquet, texture and flavor were there. I hadn’t realized I paid $22. Stunning. This requires no aeration in 2023 but 30 minutes helps. Enough tannin for balance. Maybe “dusty”. Gait is a random blend NDA, but this blend reflects the amazing vintage in NAPA.

Never heard of Gait Wines, but I gave it a shot. Dark fruit and berries. Nice licorice and pepper. Finish is a tad short, but overall it’s a pretty solid Zin.

Howell Mountain Zinfandel. Aromas of plums, violet and graphite. Rounded full, dark plum and red fruits layered with dark cocoa, lilac, and graphite with smooth tannins and a medium finish Great QPR at $17 a bottle. I would definitely buy again.

30 minute decant. Nice floral and black fruit aromas with notes of cassis, dark chocolate, brown sugar, allspice and wild herbs. Neither jammy nor peppery, very balanced with mild tannins and some fresh acidity on the finish.

$20 for Howell Mountain Zin?! Not sure I would identify this blind as HM, but it’s really good. Think of this is as a midpoint between a jammy Lodi zin and Bedrock/Seghesio OVZ.

Has a dark, jammy, spicy nose, some clay deep down there as well. Palate is full body, rich, tons of dark fruit, tons of baking spice and brown sugar, and a nice supplement of acid.

Finish is fantastic. Big chewy tannins but not overpowering. Cassis, dark cherries, cinnamon, clove.

I’m not sure I would pinpoint this as being from Howell Mountain, but it’s definitely good. Could do well 3-7 years, but so delicious and drinkable now.

The last of 6 bottles I purchased from Last Bottle in 2016. The first 5 were easily 90 point bottles, but this one checks in at 87.

Opaque purple color. Pepper, plum, and blackberries on the nose. More spices and blackberries on the palate, along with notes of chocolate, boysenberry and oak. This easy-drinking wine is dry, juicy, and medium bodied. Tannins are medium, alcohol medium, and the acidity is medium plus.

As noted above, this wine has begun to fade, so if you have any left, drink it asap.

We don't drink a lot of chardonnay, but a friend brought it over. Lighter style, not a lot of wood. Pleasant with a perfumy ending.

Very similar and consistent between the bottles. Very Nice QPR, but really not my cup of tea. And I normally love wines from Stagecoach.
