Textbook sensational Jayer. Lifted, sarsaparilla aromatics.

Nose exhibited red fruit, flowers, inner perfume, spice and meat. Incredibly youthful and dense with red fruit sweetness. It showed the 85 greatness with its ripeness. The depth of this wine was indeed impressive. Apparently, 85 is the greatest Jayer vintage according to my friend who had lots of Jayer across different vintages.

This wine walks in with a seemingly light structured frame wrapped by an ethereal rich succulence. The classic Henri Jayer Vosne-Romanee fruit tones of cherries laced with rose petals is unmistakable. The wine is COOL in the Hanky style, where alcohol is not the defining or distracting attribute to connote power. This is feminine strength in perfect pure ripeness and sweet power that lingers. The tension of the acidity holds all the sweetness together within the pure clean fruit tones.

The wine was a deceptively dark strawberry red in color and seemed initially light due to the cool entry, but never lacks in intensity of red and black cherry flavor, which dominates the palette with its richness. Then the mouthfeel... explosive, expanding and enveloping on the palette, cheeks and in the throat. The finish is 3 minutes and counting... yes really!

Limestone minerals early on give the initial impression of slight dryness on the edge of the tongue... but it resolves itself and then... BAM! it is Vosne limestone. Wine was opened, decanted, and started to blossom at 30 minutes. Drunk over 2 hours it never closed down or recoiled.

This is great burgundy winemaking in the old style... Fresh, pure, ripe, and complex... Fabulous!

Fresh nose but not much on the palate as to be expected. More for wahwah weeing than drinking. From magnum.

[Magnum] The bouquet and aromatics are totally gorgeous. Big nose of red cherry and lifted elegant fruit with spice. Flashy and beautiful, clean, de-stemmed. On the palate this is maybe technically a little lean or dry, but it is entirely correct and beautiful. If there were a complaint it might be that the palate drops off a little quickly. So special, clean, pure, precise. The vibrance and energy are unique.

Gorgeous red and blue fruits and mineral notes—particularly on the finish. Polished and round mouthfeel. Long and super finessed. Something was holding back and we felt this perhaps was not a perfect bottle but still very good.

Had side by side with the Dujac 1990 Echezeaux. Texturally, I preferred the Dujac, as the acidity and tannins were all-so-slightly aggressive on the palate in the Jayer. Aromatically, the Jayer stole the show. Still fresh raspberries and strawberries married to spices and game. I loved the Dujac's focused and linear stem and tea spice, while the Jayer was multidimensional and overwhelmed the senses. Very different expressions, both fantastic wines. Thank you, Wilf.

Labelled by Alexis Lichine and quite simply the best 1970 I have had. An ethereal nose of floral spice, grated ginger, mandarin peel and sweet earth. The palate was silky and calm, sweet and vinous. Such great presence and finesse here and a wine that quietly builds, expands and keeps delivering exotic spice flavours.

With thanks to my generous friend.

Although I don't have much experience in tasting Jayer, in my limited experience, this bottle is very Jayer, and it is also the best Jayer I have ever drunk. It makes me understand more why people are so fond of it.

On nose, tea leaves, mint, cinnamon, plums, salty lemon, lots and lots of dark plums. The flavour of dark plums is so rich and lingering. The melted tanning still retains its power after more than 5 hours of aeration.

Medium finish, but this is no longer important.

To me, a great burgundy should be beautiful, elegant, but also powerful. This bottle, I think, is sweet, elegant and powerful.

Considering its vintage, it can still perform so well, 100/100 is well deserved.

we had the bottle after some drc included "la tache" from 2006,2009,1999, the last probably one of the best wines ever had with 1990 , (this for my taste), but this is really a unique bottle, if you drink this blind , it is so young so fresh , so dark, I know the cellar it came from, and it lay there since the beginning ! blind it could be a bottle from 2006 or 2009... , but it is 20 years older.....hohohoe , the nose was fresh , round and sweet with red fruit , strawberry's, little fat as it would had a lot of sun ,but in the mouth it was fresh with a lot of acidity, like it would go on for another 20 years, after 2 hours it change to another of my favorite features, finesse and delicate , great great wine , I hope to drink it once more in the future , but the bottles are so rare, thank you FDC to have share this bottle,

What was incredible in this wine is that the color is very evolved, but the nose snd the taste feels much younger… The leather and animal aromas are mixing up with younger ripe cherries, which makes this wine very special, also very concentrated with super silky tannins and a lot of “fond” in the bottle which shows it was probably unfiltered… A once in a lifetime wine!!
