2/4/2024 - BoulderWine wrote: 88 pointsI have been opening some older vintages of the Journeyman Chardonnay. (The 2014 is drinking wonderfully.) For this 2017, the fruit has faded bringing the oak more to the front. Initially, it tasted a bit corked to me but others didn't think so. I will try another bottle soon. |

5/27/2023 - calimo Likes this wine: 87 pointsWhat a great pinot. We love the pinots from Journeyman. No funk like other pinots. Not at all light. Bold. On the nose: Blackberry/bramble. spices. Cooking spices? some pepper. On the palate: pepper, maybe a little cinnamon? other herbs, maybe. maybe a touch of tart. Long finish for a pinot. maybe a little smoke on the exhale. Paired with smoked Peruvian chicken thighs? a little magic. the pairing makes both the wine and the chicken pepperier. Maybe a little bit of floral on the palate with this pairing. which i don't understand because you smell floral, not taste it. dunno. i'm a fraud. But this pinot is really good. |

5/12/2023 - calimo Likes this wine: 87 pointsreader beware: this review may be biased as we had an epic dinner home made dinner: pork tenderloin reverse seared (recipe: https://www.traeger.com/recipes/maple-bourbon-pork-tenderloin ), asparagus...kinda thick for me...roasted root veggies with home grown marjoram and oregano. So before we started eating, we had the bottle open for about an hour. After swirling, we were getting black fruit notes, plum, black berry...spice...likely pepper. on the palate: this pinot doesn't have the funk that i associate with pinot. Peppery. it seemed like an earthier zin. not sour, not bitter, not too sweet. well balanced. long finish for a pinot. Never thought we'd score a pinot this high. |

5/29/2022 - calimo Likes this wine: 86 pointsthis has got to be the best Pinot Noir i've tasted. fruity on the nose, spicy on the pallet. There is some action between Journeyman wine and my bbq smoked king salmon. Not magic, but it's a good pairing with my spicy rub. I've had other pinot noirs that have "disappeared" behind that rub. Not this one. it's stands up. this is not a wussy pinot noir, but a bold pinot noir. |

5/8/2022 - calimo Likes this wine: 86 pointsmost Pino Noirs i have sampled have had that classic barnyard taste (maybe not classic?). This does not have that. On the nose, it's kinda like a spicy plumb. But its maybe the most robust (?) pinot noir i've tasted. its actually got some tannins in it. it is delicious with food. i paired this with a BBQ Smoked Salmon and i think this wine was so delish, it overpowered the salmon. Kinda drank like a zin, maybe? it kinda had a delicious hit of smoke to it...Honestly, i don't drink a lot of Pinot Noirs so, i'm not the best judge, but this Pinot Noir blew me away. i loved it. it went really well with our Salmon and our gingery garlic kale/purple tree collard green (aka ""richmond's Pride)...peppery taste on the complex finish...it was layered. |

4/10/2022 - jmcafee Likes this wine: NRMature and well balanced with plenty of pear and apple flavors. The oak is not over the top, but adds body that will match will match well with more flavorful dishes (such as macadamia nut encrusted halibut). This could continue aging for several more years. My drink by date of 2024 could be extended. |

3/21/2022 - calimo wrote: 89 pointsSo we went to Seghesio to see if we could purchase a case of their San Lorenzo Zin blend. Sadly, they were all out. The good folks at Seghesio told us about how Pete Seghesio, after selling the Seghesio operation to somebody (someone else told us some big beverage conglomerant), that Pete Seghesio was following his passion of...meat. Opened a store in Healdsburg and was selling meat...but also started making his own wine...from...the san lorenzo vineyard (i guess is on his property or something) so after we had a lovely tasting, went over to Journeyman Meat Company and tasted and tried this San Lorenzo. it is great. reminds me of the Seghesio San Lorenzo. Spicy on the nose, a little sour, spicy to taste...nice finish. good with spicy pizza |

12/12/2020 - BoulderWine Likes this wine: 93 pointsThis bottle is drinking much better than my bottle in July when the oak dominated. This is balanced with a nice, lingering finish. Yes, the oak is still there but it melds seamlessly. A very good to start to the evening just drinking on its own. |
