2022 Lay of the Land Pinot Gris

Marlborough more

I doubt I have ever loved a Pinot Gris from the new world but as it goes this is a decent example. Fruit notes that veer somewhere between nashi pear and exotic fruit. Just a hint of grip on the palate. Overall... not bad. On the right day I could enjoy this.

(2017 vintage) - More please!! For us occasional white drinkers, this is the reliable 1st choice to please everyone. Not too acidic or floral, it's really crisp and refreshing and slides down waaaay too easily....

Quite tannic for a Pinot. Lacks fruit to be pleasing. Try again in 2026

From Naked. Lemon-gold in glass. Nose of ripe peaches and pear. Palate - medium acidity, pear and peach, melon flavours, a sweetness to go well with spicy foods and also very drinkable. Nothing standout, but enjoyed with friends.

Closed tight initially, takes 30 mins to an hour to begin opening, menthol, forest floor, sour cherry notes, high acidity, good structured tannins supporting the cherry, strawberry fruit, a touch of oak nicely balanced. Wow. Slow drinker... opens nicely

92 - deep reddy purple, clearing to the edge, menthol, tar, violet, berry nose, lovely berry fruit developing into sour cherry, little cedar notes, good structured tannins matching the fruit, well balanced, nice lasting finish. Looking forward to my ne t glass to see how it continues to develop.

Raspberry and strawberry with hints of cherry on the nose. Red berries are there on the soft palate with a slight acid tang on the back. Mild medium finish. Soft easy drinking Pinot but tasty

The classic green bell pepper aroma is very up front here which makes me nervous since it can really take over a sauv blanc for me, but while it's noticeable on first sip, it's not overwhelming. The wine itself has the perfect blend up acid up front and lush, medium bodied smoothness. Along with the bell pepper there's pineapple, baked pear, and honey notes. What a crisp, delicious sipper!

Medium colour with plenty happening on the nose. Floral red fruits, strawberries raspberries and more. On the palate it’s all there with an interesting tang and long finish. I’ve had better but I’ve also had worse examples of Pinot. For a normally Shiraz drinker that would avoid Pinot this is one I will go back to. Well worth it.

Citrussy (lime), sharp pineapple. Get more flavour if you let the temperature rise a little, rather than straight from the fridge.

Good, grapefruit, grassy (but not too...) and sharpish lime citrus. Versatile as we had it over a couple of nights with different dishes. Not classic Marlborough SB for me, but would buy again (a good brand generally, The Lay of the Land Pinot Gris is great).

I love the acidity of this wine, I find it a little more acidic than other Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc that I have had and I am a happy drinker. On the nose I notice hints of grapefruit. On the palate I have green apples, citrus and grass. Awesome SB that I will buy again. Was a little daring and paired this SB with Penne Vodka, the acidity of this wine was perfect with the Penne Vodka. This wine is a winner.

This 2013 seems to have bottle variation: tasted a couple of years ago it was boring and ordinary, yet tasted again last month (Feb 2018) it had improved significantly, it’d redeemed itself thoroughly, though now, a month later and another bottle same vintage, again boring and very ordinary. See-saw wine.

Decanted. Room temp. Looks light-bodied. Flavours short and lacking any charm. Have resolved, finally, to not buy again.
