What a dud. Alcoholic and bitter. At least space has been made in the cellar.

Showing age in brown tinges on rim. Cork in good condition.

Opened two hours, first glass through aerator, remainder straight pours (better in retaining fruit and acidity)

Probably another two-three years before it is overthe top

I think this wine must have been too old or poorly stored (99 Cent Store, right ??) Had lots of sediment and "popped" somewhat when uncorked. The wine was not bad, though....

Again, a fruit forward RRV Pinot. A bit candied, more oak than I prefer, but went well with grilled tri-tip - such is this style of Pinot. Good wine for this style and holding up pretty well at this age.

This bottle showed very well - best of the 3 opened thus far.

First night opened - confected, hot, and sweet. Next evening - completely fell apart and was undrinkable.

2nd of 4 bottles from recent auction purchase.
This bottle showed like it was drying out a little bit, with the oak and oak tannin asserting control over the flavor profile. I didn't notice this with the first bottle a week or so ago.

13.9% abv. "Less than 350 cases." Recent auction purchase.
Tasted alongside the 2011. This had more of an old-world earthy vibe to it than the 2011. Restrained fruit presence, but actually was drinking very nicely - we all really enjoyed this. I wouldn't wait too much longer on this, but it should hold for another year or two.

Tasted alongside the 2012. This was a little confected and simple. Probably past its prime drinking window. The 2012 was much, much better.

I don't know if there was bottle variation or if this particular bottle was not handled correctly. A prior bottle drank well for the price. This bottle was drinkable, but lacking in anything that tastes like a Syrah. It was thin bodied, and generally lackluster.

Certainly drinkable but also pretty much nondescript pinot noir. I hoped for something more memorable from this wine...Meh.

Taste CA Wines (San Diego Wine Co.): "Established in 1995 just outside of Occidental, and planted to P.N. clones 115, 113, & Beringer in sandy loam soil, the Morelli Lane Vyd finds its home at a 1000’ elevation & only 6 short mi from the rugged & cool Sonoma Coast."

N: Blk rasps, straws, & earth

P: Med body; RNDISH entry with ALMOST swtish frt met by puckerish astringency which morphs into a LONG finish with a BITTER/swtness (70:30) to the VERY fine tannins. "Rougher" than I'd like/expect, this NEEDS into, poss through, '20, then drinking for 3 yrs more, IF the frt holds, in which case my VG/VG+ will be WOEFULLY low. 14.1% ABV. [I saw no other sources with which to compare this vendor's (closeout?) $14.99, which may already have sold out.]

Wine has a very very smooth start, semi-sweet and has a good medium body and finishes with mild to medium tan.

Excellent to start off the evening, pairs well with appetizers, fish, sea food and chicken.

Light ruby color. The legs are medium. It smells like cherry, mushroom, and stone. The body is light/medium, with a silky texture. Shortish finish, may get better with time. Low acidity. Great with grilled or sautéed pork ribs.

Opaque black cherry red color. Rich, jammy nose with ripe aromas of cassis and blackberry, vanilla oak, some peppery spice and a hint of olive paste. Burly and very soft in the mouth with flavors of chocolate, rich oak nuances, cherry, blackberry and olive. Quite nice acidity and modest, yet decent tannins, but still neither of them gives the wine enough structure to keep it fresh and structured. This is not completely flabby wine, but it lacks form and freshness. The finish is powerful and quite warm with long-lingering flavors of ripe dark berries, raspberries and woody oak.

Although labeled as 'Syrah', this drinks more like a 'Shiraz' - as a Rhône-styled wine this is way too soft, ripe and unstructured, but for a new world Syrah this is more decent of an effort, although still quite sweet, unstructured and plain boring to my tastes. Has nothing that one wouldn't already tasted in any mid-to-high priced new world Syrah. This needs less jammy fruit, less ripeness, less oak, more structure. Not worth the 19,86€.

Appearance: blood orange, pale reddish violet - very pretty
Nose: earthy, forest floor, mushroomy, red cherry, raspberry, small wild strawberry
Palate: firm but affable tannins, medium high acidity, medium to light body, dry, bright and fresh fruits (dark cherry, orange peel, strawberry) with a lot of baking spices, a lot of great earthy characters, fungus, wet woods
Finish: long and enjoyable with the flavour profiles continues at least a minute in your month.

Right amount of everything that is good about Pinot Noir. Bright fruits are prevented from getting carried away by good doses of earthy notes. Very long and satisfying finish. Had this with home-made sirloin steaks of two styles - thyme, rosemary, and fleur de sel butter-panfry on one hand, and Korean bbq marinated on the other. This Lost Canyon Pinot competed well with the sweet Korean bbq as well as complemented the more Western style steak.

All in all, a great rendition of New World Pinot Noir. I guess if you like the New World style, this is as good as it gets.
