Very tasty. Nice surprise, found this at a local wine shop, unexpected as a 2013 bottle. Notes of slate, pencil lead, and blueberry with a smooth undertone. Love Howell Mountain. Well done. Score = [ 50 + 5 + 12 + 17 + 8 ] = 92.

raspberry, currant, oak spice, coffee, pepper, cocoa, red cherries and dried earth.

More of a red fruit palate than the usual dark berry Howell, more fresh mouthfeel with acidity and earthy undertones, really peppery aromatics

2012 is the current release of this wine, which is the only wine this producer makes. Blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot. This wine comes from the Howell Mountain appellation; specifically, the grapes are from Beatty Ranch vines planted in the late 1970s or so. I decanted a bottle this evening, and wow: amazingly complex aromas of blackberry, leather, smoked meat, and more than I could really capture quickly. Things immediately settled down and the wine tended toward the dark side: blackberry, boysenberry, black plum, and a light flinty/earthy undertone with rich tannins and acidity. I could just sit and smell this wine for hours. I tasted some after about 15 minutes of decanting to see how things were progressing. Delicious. Strong tannins and acidity as promised, complex and smooth mouthfeel with silky, mildly dusty body and nice mix of juicy red fruits on top of the black fruits. Terrific wine.

Had it with charcuterie and cheese, and it worked very well. Earthy, with berry flavors, this wine had a nostalgic feel.
Highly recommend.

Family Winemakers 25th Anniversary Tasting, I remember their first at the Hyatt Embarcadero. Nose of briar, black cherry fruit, and spring flowers, more of the same on the palate, tasty, bigger than the 2011 and slightly better made, medium body and a long, long finish.

The wine looks Ruby colored. The legs are Slow. It smells like and Cherry. It tastes like Cherry, and Cinnamon. The body is Medium/Full. The wine has Silky texture. The wine finishes Short.

A big nose of cherry and a little cinnamon. Mild tannins and a short finish. A really rich syrah. Just drank the last bottle in my collection. Moving on, but I enjoyed all six.

A nose of dark cherry fruit, cassis, and a hint of mocha chocolate. Just enough tannins to age a bit, but doesn't require it. Approachable today and enjoyable for probably the next 8 years. A new producer.

Very small producer. Cherry, mocha, coffee on the nose. A mix of black and red fruit. Medium finish. Medium to full body. Very enjoyable with our meal.
