There is definitely an oaky mid palate which is not my favorite but this is well integrated. Flavors of honeysuckle, lemon, and smoke. Rich mouthfeel and crispy acidity. Finish is very nice. |

Ehrlich and Vinum Dei, are new producers in Napa, and Vinum Dei was the wine of the evening but the Pahlmeyer was a close second. beautiful aromatics, rich mouthfeel...jam, spice, black fruits. tightly wound, still a baby. beautiful. |

Oily, full-bodied, and complex, this is not a poolside sipper, IMO. Think more slippers, pipe and robe. Notes of caramel and buttered popcorn, with a long finish. We had this with shrimp al ajillo and I don't think it was a great pairing, not enough noticeable acidity, but it would be great with a more traditional "red wine" food, or by itself. Also, it tasted better when most of the chill was gone from some time in the wine glass, rather than straight out of the ice bucket. |
