Lighter color than other recent Priorats we’ve had, likely heavy on Carignan. Smokey cedar nose with ripe plum and blackberry, hint of maple syrup. Palate is full, smoky with red cherries, slate and drying charcoal in the finish. Tannins are relatively easy going. Underbrush complexity is there but not greatly delineated. I think there is room to improve over next 5-10 years. 91-92 points now. |

At 12 years of age this is in a great drinking window but will continue to cellar very well. A hypothetic mix of Rhone/Priorat like qualities. 11/26/2021 - Eric Guido Does not like this wine: NRI went in with high expectations but the 2013 Priorat Vi de Villa Gratallops was a disappointment to me. It's intense bouquet of black currants and tobacco leaf contrasted by menthol and camphor makes for an interesting introduction. The silky textures, cool-toned wild berry fruits and salty minerals keep you interested--but there's a dip in the mid-palate that comes across as airy yet... vacant. Fine tannins linger under an air of balsamic spices, clove and lavender. However, the impression this leaves me with is one of confusion. I hope that, with time in the cellar, the 2013 will reveal something more interesting. |
