Ruby red with an amazing necklace that drips slowly from the rim. Sure, the bouquet and palate are wonderful, dripping with juicy red and black fruits. And the finish is memorable, showing herbs and minerals. But this offering just looks beautiful in the glass. Hold it up to the light ...... and enjoy. |

There was no WOW, but still an excellent wine. When people say that aged zinfandel is claret-like, this is what they are talking about. Would easily have been mistaken for, let's say, a third or fourth groth St. Estephe. There was a light lathery component reflecting the age and moderate fruit. No oxidation in my bottle, as Wetrock found last year in his CT note. Condition was perfect and exactly what you would expect from a 13 year old wine. I thought the fruit was a bit light, red, dark and brooding, but my wife found stronger fruit. No tanins, no astringency, no jammy zinfandel sweetness. All the rough edges were gone. This disappeared quickly over dinner. |

The fruit has faded, but it still has typical berry and spice flavors. More of a port-like character at this point, with some sharp acidity and alcohol coming to the fore. |
