A literal marriage of Chardonnay (Richard Petit) and Pinot Noir (Véronique Bajan) with some mentoring from the one and only Ansleme Selosse makes for a pretty compelling story. As it turns out, the wines are pretty darned good! Popped and poured. The “Nuit Blanche” is a BdB showcase of Petit’s family holdings in Avize with some fruits coming from Cramant and Oger as well. The wine pours a light straw color with a persistent mousse. On the nose, mix of lemon curd, white peach, limes, pear, almonds and brioche with chalky minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with really good acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long with distinctive chalky minerals. This was very nice and I look foreword to tracking their wines. Bottled on July 2, 2015. Disgorged November 2021. |

I would say that, on a whole, this one is right down the middle. The nose of this wine seems to indicate a sparkling that is going to be more oxidative. Pours with moderately big bubbles, yellow peach and Bartlett pear notes coming from the glass. The palate is more of an Asian pear and a white peach, seems to be definitely much more lean in character versus the nose. The middle of this one is where the herbal qualities gain, and a lot of white wildflowers integrate well with an Asian pear background. Finishes with white pepper wrapped around a youthful yellow fruit core. If I was lucky enough to have a case of this, I'd take the other 11 and age them for at least 5 years, then pull them one per year to see how they develop over the next decade. Iquared this one in mid 2022, so using that as a measuring stick I'd say you have a good 15 years from that point. |

4/26/2022 - sh6k Likes this wine: 95 pointsTruly excellent -- light but extremely flavorful, with berries and apricots and vanilla and toast and hints of reductive flint/gamey notes -- all the greatest hits of champagne hitting you all at once, but in a harmonious focused package. "Focused" for sure -- unlike Krug Grand Cuvee (which I tend to score the same 95 points) which hits you all across the palate, this feels like a tight sphere floating in the mouth. Floating in a Burgundian manner -- ethereal. Also: would be very crowd pleasing (though I didn't share). And held up extremely well over a couple days. I wouldn't go out of my way to age it, but it could handle it for sure. |

Big mouthfeel with a cool V-shaped acid line of like a sour mango, great toasty chalky touches of buttery nose, perfectly balanced dosage, long long finish. Writing this as I sip and I keep wanting to add another point to the score with each sip. At this rate I’ll hit 110 by the end of the bottle. Watch this space. (Update: it plateaued at 93) |
