First Wednesday Wine Club (Napoli in Bocca, Haberfield): Served Blind.
Menthol, mint, eucalyptus, positively pine! Red currant over blackcurrant. Medium plus intensity acidity, juicy, fleshy, medium plus intensity tight drying, grainy, chalky tannins. Fruit plays second fiddle, quite 'wet'.
I guessed NSW (Orange or Hunter Valley) Cabernet 2016

Under Crown Seal so no problem of being corked. Medium bodied, deep but clear garnet color, with some brownish tinges indicating its age. A touch of tobacco, dark red fruits - blackcurrent and oak in the background. Tanins have all disappeared, with acid just hanging in there. I would say drinking at its best now - perhaps I just grabbed this just in time. Very enjoyable for a cabernet from the Orange region.

Appearance: Deep Ruby and slight sediment, fast legs‎
Nose: Highly Peppery top notes and deep berry fruits to finish
Palate: Restrained berry flavours open, rather lightly (unexpected) and then lend to those divine peppery notes. The wine has a long and peppery finish. There are no other spices on the palate. The pepper zing to finish is uplifting and almost refreshing. 
Conclusion. Very good, however could easily further develop over the next five-ten years. ‎

This vintage just got better and better with bottle age, James Halliday gave it a score of 94 and described it as follows, “remarkable hue and depth, the flavours of blackberry, blackcurrant and plum are very well balanced by fine tannins and the memory of oak, given its age and quality, an exceptional bargain”. It has now sold out.

Cabernet Shiraz Tasting: Black pepper, some floral notes and raspberry. Light body, it doesn't have incredible depth but it is pleasant and tasty. Medium length.
