Nice Rhone white - notes of stone fruit. Best on the warmer side.

Wow an explosion of fresh cut pears on the nose here. Super expressive pears on the palate as well. Lemon zest. Tang. Excellent balance. Very interesting and quite a bit going on here. Saline.

Drank over two nights. Delicious stuff and hits all the right notes for me. Fruity, waxy, lemon, and solid but not sharp acidity. Good for a white Rhone style blend, imo.

Another Tercero white that comes alive as it warms to room temperature. Nice aromatics, good balancing acidity, little bit of waxy texture. Depth is lacking a bit - not really a hollow mid-palate, but it clearly dropped off. I'm being a little nit-picky here, but it was noticeable and my wife also commented on it. Consistent notes over two days.

Again, another Tercero white that blossoms as it warms to room temp. This Roussane was loaded with flavors and textures, a fascinating white that deserves attention and delivers enjoyment as well. These off-the-beaten-path Tercero whites are a journey for the wine lover who is tired of the "usual" varieties.

On the heels of the Clone 115, this seems much more ready to go and willing to deliver. The mouthfeel is smoother and there's just more going on in the bouquet. Though, it also seems like time will be of benefit for this as well.

Slightly translucent crimson. Nutmeg, cedar, and plum nose. Medium to full bodied, savory, with dark red fruit, dirty tannins, and a smooth long finish. Delicious.

No experience with this vineyard, clone, or vintage, but this left me a little underwhelmed compared to this producer's Rhone lineup. To me, it comes across as a generic Central Coast PN with a heavy influence from the alcohol (even though it's only 13.5%) hovering over the underlying varietal character. No way that I'm saying it isn't a well-made wine, it just isn't a style I favor. Happy to be proven wrong if my remaining bottle ages into something more to my liking.

Love what Larry is doing with this variety. I loved the 2020 and this 2021 is very similar. Ripe enough to not be too "green", but not enough that the Cab Franc character is ripened out. Good balancing acidity, some tannin - great structure to help this develop for a good long time.

Flavorful, crisp acidity, good weight but not heavy. Kind of a citrus flavor profile - probably on the grapefruit spectrum with some bitter phenolic notes. This was very good at fridge temp but showed more at room temp (70F) and was still refreshing. My wife and I are really enjoying going through all of these interesting Tercero whites.

Not giving much at refrigerator temp. As it warmed to room temp, this showed its weight and complexity. Lots going on here, with a symphony of textures and flavors. Really enjoyed this contemplative white. Another Tercero white that deserves to be treated like a red as far as serving temperature.

2017 Tercero Carignane

Santa Barbara County more

4/9/2024 - fingers Likes this wine: 92 points

Clear and bright ruby color, about 60% opaque with a speck of sediment at the bottom. Profound, muscular bouquet of dark toast and ripe berry salad along with kefta spices. The palate brightens up some, adding more red berry and plum. This has Larry's signature showing in regards to the balance and texture of this wonderful interpretation. Carignane, I usually find to be lacking something and gives me the feeling like Granache or Syrah needs to be blended in. But this is just fine on its own, and I think it will get even more interesting as time goes on. 5+12+17+8= 92

Quite golden in color. Nose — peach, pear, butterscotch. Quite intense on open and diminished fairly significantly in the thirty minutes I have had open. Palate — m+ acidity, quite a persistent finish. Peach, butterscotch, lemon, a little wood element. A touch acidic on front end, then dives in mid palate, with an acidic pop on the back end. Very nice mouthfeel. It does get better with air. Acidity is a bit high, it overshadows some of the complexity in the wine. Overall a very nice wine. Quite nice on day 2, still a lot of flavor and decent balance with acidity more in check.

Love this. Drinking it early but so enjoyable.

Appearance- clear, medium plus/ opaque deep ruby.

Nose - clean, youthful, it’s been open for a few hours now and the nose is quite powerful. I am getting alcohol burn. It’s listed 14.3 abv and this is not an exaggeration. Lush black berry fruit. Cocoa. Meaty. Menthol. Bloody raw meat which of course sounds gross but you know if you know.

Palate - has emerged quite a bit with air. Delicious on first sip. Still delicious but the wine is stepping out as it’s true self with air. Making me think that more veg time will let it settle down and wonderful notes and complexity will emerge. Body is medium plus. Alcohol is high. Notes are currently let’s say, not as integrated as they could be but because it’s young. The components seem to be there. Tannins are medium to mild at first but emerge inside gums after you swallow the sip and your mouth tingles. Wine is very juicy beckoning for next sip. Acidity is medium at first but again, as the tannins emerge, your mouth waters for another sip. Finish is medium plus. Notes of black fruit. A dark chocolate feel on the palate. Cocoa powder taste. Dusty chocolate. Think this would taste great with something chocolate. It’s a rich wine. I can pull a bit of cinnamon out. It’s a very interesting wine. Not getting any sour or tart but more of a rich bittersweet chocolate. With a wonderful creaminess in the palate.

Paired it with a Chinese stir fry tonight. Black bean sauce. It worked. Now sipping on its own and trying to imagine what else. Seems relatively versatile and like the label suggestion of a pizza wine. Can see it matching with the richness of the cheese, garlic, sausage, salt.

Very interesting wine and suspect it has an interesting road ahead. Don’t be like me. Let it sleep though if you had to open it, it’s lovely.

This bottle was fully back on point since it wasn't stored in a freon-leaking wine fridge. Drank this over 4 days open and solid to the finish. I do have to think of it more like a full-bodied white because it reminds me so much of a nice Gewurz or Rhone blanc and I think it pairs with food the same way. Too serious to be just a summertime porch pounder.

The wife opened another bottle. Again, nothing remarkable at refrigerator temp, but was super flavorful and interesting as it warmed to room temp. Probably a good idea to treat this as a red wine (55 degree temp to start, and then let it warm at room temp as you go through the bottle).

Santa Ynez Valley more

3/26/2024 - Ellen5181 Likes this wine: 90 points

Appearance - beautiful deep ruby. From the color I would be thing black fruit notes vs your typical Grenache which we know is red fruit. Medium intensity

Nose - medium minus intensity. You need to swirl and pull the note. Clean, very youthful. Feels a bit separate. Components are the but from the nose suspec it’s not ready yet for prime time. Stemmy red fruit. Berries. Definitely feel the alcohol on the nose.

Palate - wow on palate. Pop of flavor and acidity and it all pulls together in away that is fresh and enticing. Juicy. With a oak sizzle on the back palate and swallow. Ripe red fruits. Berries. Raspberry. Plums. Acidity is medium plus. Finish is medium plus if not long. Tannins are not really perceptible but you taste the time in oak and it rounds out the finish. Very balanced on palate. Body is medium.

This is a lovely wine. I do think more time waiting would pay off as there is more to show for this wine. To me this is wine you buy and hold for a bit longer. Maybe I’m drinking too soon.

3/25/2024 - Ellen5181 Likes this wine: 85 points

Appearance - clear, medium ruby/garnet.

Nose - clean, youthful, medium intensity, red fruit, getting alcohol burn on nose and eyes. Menthol notes

Palate - tastes fresh with fresh ripe fruit. Medium body. A minty frizzante at the end of the gulp red fruits. I will say starting to feel a little tired where it’s not tasting as integrated as maybe it once was? Tannins are mild. Acidity is medium. Alcohol listed as 12%. Feels integrated on palate. Body is medium. Finish is medium. Getting notes of sour red cherry. Again with the minty after taste

It’s an easy to drink red wine. A pure varietal that we don’t often see where you can enjoy and learn about it’s characteristics. Larry has the ability to pull out what is unique and special.

I suspect the wine is not poised to improve at this stage so probably best to enjoy now. I think pair it with pizza, Italian cuisine, salads, cheese, charcuterie, grilled cheese sandwiches, etc.
