Strawberry perfume nose

A beautiful wine drinking very nicely right now
Brick at the edge
A barnyard and slightly scorched earth nose on opening blows off within 5 minutes to a more perfumed violet, cherry, cedar combination
The palate is medium bodied but has rich black cherry fruit with almost fully integrated tannins. The rich finish is persistent.
A wonderful surprise and sadly our only bottle

Drinking well now
Medium body, green tomato and soft red fruit. Interesting secondary notes
Probably the best NY State Cab Franc I've had (only an n of 5 though)

Not a huge fan of this Chateau in many years, but this is a good one.
Major benefit from 2 hours in the decanter as initially I found it austere with tannins eclipsing the fruit
With time it developed a lovely dark fruit/green tomato nose and the on the palate the fruit shone thru with black raspberry leading the way. The tannins became more subtle and fine
It has many years ahead of it I would say

Decanted 30 min
Just a bit of brick at the rim
Initially closed, but nose develops a lovely blackberry scent with a hint of basement must
The wine still has plenty of black cherry and blackberry fruit. Tannins have largely resolved. As the night wore on a hint of green tomato and tobacco leaf become more apparent on the finish. Not necessarily a bad thing, but for me a bit of a negative and I dropped the score from 94 to 93
Drinking at peak now I would say

Wow
Surprisingly impressed by this wine. It has evolved fantastically since we tasted it at the winery
Decanted for 30 min
Darker gold in color than expected, the nose is honeysuckle, tropical fruit, vanilla and a hint of coconut
The palate is more honeysuckle and a melange of tropical fruit. There is an almost oily, unctuous mouthfeel and the finish is long
This is new world Chardonnay in the hedonistic style and if that is what you like, it's an excellent one. I can't see this wine providing more pleasure than this and I recommend drinking now

Brick at the edges
mature nose of leather and tobacco leaf. Perhaps there is a hint of sherry
The wine is leathery with tobacco leaf and sweet cherries. The fruit is definitely still there but I sense it has started its decline
A very nice fully mature wine. I would not wait long to drink any remaining bottles (and we have 2!)

Still dark, but starting to turn brickish at the rim
Lovely nose of leather and tobacco leaf - a highlight of the experience with this wine
Classic bordeaux palate of raspberry and strawberry with tobacco leaf and a bit of green tomato
Currently the wine leans slightly to the austere side and fruit-wise may be starting to decline. I think I would not wait any longer to drink these

Probably the best Pahlmeyer wine I've ever had - and I've had quite a few
Just starting to turn brickish at the rim
Beautiful nose of black raspberries and black cherries
The palate is seamless with dark fruit that has exceptional focus and intensity. Not a hint of anything other than deliciousness from beginning to finish. The fruit is almost sweet in it's purity.

Tasted blind as part of an old world-new world rhone varietal tasting
Quite light in color suggesting grenache rather than syrah
A brief initial whif of scorched earth gives way to bright strawberries and cherries. More new world than old world
The palate is juicy cherries and red raspberries with a hint of tartness. It finishes with great persistence
An excellent and elegant wine that has come together beautifully
Very pleased that we have one more bottle

Absolutely delicious. Still has tannins and excellent rich fruit. Should continue to drink exceptionally for 5-10 more years. Prefer the 1997 by a whisker

Dark in color without any real sign of age
Nose initially has a hint of musty funkiness, but that is mostly gone after 5 minutes and gives way to blackberry pie or blackberry syrup with the barnyard far in the background
On the palate the wine is rich and unctuous black cherry/blackberry. a slight astringent note holds the score down for me
Drinking at peak now and probably for several years more

Lovely nose with tropical fruits
Beautifully balanced. Rich dried pineapple and apricot, pineapple cake, quince and lychee

I'm giving this wine 92 point on its merits but it was not what i was expecting from The Languedoc and left me a little disappointed for that reason. This is a BIG new world style Syrah with 15% alcohol. It could have been from California - or even Australia.

The wine is dark to the rim still
The nose has rich dark fruits with some spicy undertones
On the palate it is extracted, round and rich with boysenberry, plum and even a hint of prune. There is still some tannin. It has a long finish and is drinking very nicely right now.
It is the decadent style favored by Parker and Dunnuck

I think if I had been prepared and in the right mind-set this could have merited a 93 - but I started at 91 as it overwhelmed the food we'd paired it with.
